How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016537 / WPW10185972 Timer

Tested all electrical parts and ended up ordering and replacing timer. 

I ordered a new timer, and when I ordered it, (a type-O on my part) , I requested the wrong part number, which was sent to me, and after receiving it and installing it, I found out an error on my part, was very evitable, so I called Appliance Parts Pros and told them of my mistake, and gave them the correct part number, and they immediately put the right one in the mail that very same day, and told me to return the one I had incorrectly ordered for a complete refund on the incorrect part. A person couldn't ask for better service than that. Husband put new one in 

I watched video on appliancepartspros.com. very professional and easy to follow and understand. the shipping was very fast too. 

I ordered the timer from appliance Parts Pros. I also checked out the price from Whirlpool. They wanted 105 for the part that you were charging 89 for and they wanted 15.99 for shipping and you charged 6.99. They would discount the price of the part but not the shipping. It only took a few minutes to unplug the dryer and to open the back panel and remove the timer. It only took a few more minutes to put the contacts on the timer, fasten it in placed, close it back up and plug it in. It works! 

Replaced it 

I checked all the fuzes first and did not find any bad ones then checked heating element-OK. Could not understand the wiring diagram chart. Ordered a motor as drum did not turn. Bad idea as motor was good. Returned motor and talked to tech about wiring diagram. She sent a larger version of the diagram by email. By looking at the larger version, I was able to see the testing directions were not wire colors but nodes where wires met. They were labeled A, C, etc and then looked at color of wire to each side on the node. Then by using ohm meter could test each cycle of timer at the connection on back of Timer by wire color. Worked very easy without disconnecting any plugs. I found a bad connection for each cycle of Timer. Repair took about 15 minutes to remove panel, test wiring contacts(multiple checks to be sure), and remove Timer. Ordered and received timer, about 4 days. Only took about 5 minutes to install new Timer. Dryer is working great! 

I tested all of the other electrical parts to make sure they were working and narrowed it down to just the timer. It was very easy to remove and replace. A few screws to take off the back, two screws on the timer, remove the connections and install new timer, put the screws back it. 

We removed it and put on the new one 

Removed the back panel, discovered the wires and replaced with the new timer.
