How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023568 / WPW10642928 Dryer Timer

Replaced dryer timer. 

Ordered the replacement part, took out the old timer and installed the new. I must say removing the old timer was the most difficult task. Hopefully newer models have screws to hold them in place rather than the ‘slot’ type fastener. However, even that was not a large time constraint. I was just afraid I was going to break something using so much force to break it loose. Alls well that ends well 

Seamless fix. Took the back panel off. Disconnected all the electrical harnesses and installed the new time and reattached. It is a little tricky getting the old time out with the placement of the snap but a long pliers did the trick. 

After reviewing some appliance repair videos, I determined the problem with our Maytag Bravos dryer was the timer. The knob used to select a dryer setting just spun and could be pulled off. I have used Appliance Parts Pro in the past and knew their website could help me determine the part necessary for replacement. After entering my model number, I quickly found the part. The cost was reasonable and I could select the shipping cost that is determined by how quickly I needed the part. Replaced 

I replaced the dryer timer and the knob. Once I had the parts, it was an easy fix. Figuring out how to release the dryer timer from the clips that hold it in place was a little tricky but squeezing them with a pair of needle nose pliers released it.

Removed the top panel. Remove the old timer and installed the new one. 

After a little research on this site and a couple others, I determined it was the dryer timer control that was bad in my unit. Ordered the part, it arrived within a couple of days. Installed it (easy) and it works great now. Toughest part of the install was releasing the clip under the timer to remove it. Light and some small birdnose pliers solved the issue.
