How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008880 / WP3949238 Lid Switch Assembly

I am a single 53-year-old female homeowner who works two jobs. I surprised myself with repairing my washing machine on my own but I could would not have even attempted it I Had I not found the Appliance Parts Pros. I started by Google searching what my issue was with the brand and model number of my old top load washing machine. I came across troubleshooting information and after verifying it wasn't the power source, I confirmed it was the lid switch that was broken. I was able to put a screwdriver in to hold the actuator down, so the cycle would go into rinse and spin, enabling the machine to get the water out. Appliance Parts Pros was the one who had the best DIY videos for someone like me with absolutely NO experience in fixing things. I was just determined not to have to pay hundreds of dollars for a r +epairman to come out and I knew Kenmore was a great brand for washing machines and since they don't make them like they used to, I didn't want, nor could I afford to buy a new washer. The gentleman on the tutorial video spoke slowly and very clearly and delivered the installation instructions for the lid switch assembly into layman's terms, with excellent video coverage on each step, making me confident that this was something I could do myself. Surprisingly he even said you didn't have to buy the part from them, but if you needed the part, they had it. Well, there was no way I was going to buy that part from anyone other than them because they were so generous to post this video on the internet for anyone to access free of charge! I ordered the part from them and once it came in a few days later, I followed their instructional video to a T and within a few hours, I completed the job all by myself!!! It would have been a much quicker job to install, but I wanted to clean every part of my washing machine before I put it back together. Lots of pet hair and grime build up after 16 years. Now it works like a charm and even looks brand new!!! 

A quick search and an awesome video made the choice easy. My six year old son and I got er done quickly and with fun mixed in! Having the video on my iPad made it so simple. In no time flat we were back in business and could face the world with clean clothes and new found confidence in having taken on and conquered the cracked lid switch! Bully!! 

I looked on ask.com and found out it could be switch. I ordered switch and watched your tutorial on installation of switch.it was very simple and fast. 

I am a stay at home mom and it was a breeze to fix the lid switch after watching the help video and receiving the part. It was well worth my time. 

I found the parts on your website and watched the video and it was fixed in no time. This parts site is always the one I go to first. I've done a number of projects and have never been disappointed. 

Replaced the lid switch 

First, checked for sites found by googling my problem. Viewed your VERY helpful site videos describing possible problems and repairs--these were very good. Found the lid switch to be defective, and checked the pump--which turned but was worn. Ordered both parts, received them in a couple of days; replaced them, and washed clothes. Many thanks. Excellent service and assistance with repair. 

I followed a video that had the part number in the video title. It was very easy following the video. Basically you unplug the unit, unscrew and flip up the control panel, unplug the control panel side of the lid switch connector, unclip and remove the washer shell, r & r the lid switch, and reverse the process to put the whole thing back together. Let me say that I was amazed as to how fast the part arrived. I have used AppliancePartsPros in the past and will continue to use them due to their great service. Thanks guys! 

Received the replacement part in just 2 days. It was an exact replacement for the Kenmore model 110.15862400. The video helped a lot. I don't think I would have attempted this without the video. There was one set of screws not shown on the video, which needed to be removed to remove the top control panel, but they were obvious. Overall, done in 1/2 hour which included cleaning all the hard to reach areas that haven't been cleaned in the last several years. Overall, a very positive experience. 

Replaced the switch. If you were short of money you could probably fix the switch by gluing the halves back together. Once you have gone to the trouble of taking the washer housing off it makes sense to replace the switch. The video that appliancepartspros provided on the page where you order the switch, is excellent, very clear. The guy that does these is very good at it. You can watch it on an ipad and pause it as required. It provides the key info most of us are missing, ie, how do you get the machine housing apart to get at the internals. The job went smoothly and was not physically demanding since the washer housing is thin sheet metal and relatively light.
