Appliance is a Kenmore, Series 80, Heavy Duty, Large Capacity washer.
The problem was a broken Lid Switch.
The repair was extremely easy once I figured out how to detach the control panel from the top of the main cabinet and swing it up. I finally figured out that there are two front plastic trim pieces on the ends of the console that just snap in place. They pop out toward the front of the machine. To remove them place a screwdriver behind the trim piece and twist it. 2 screws are then evident fixing the console to the top of the machine. Watch the video, very helpful.
Total time to install new lid switch 2.5 hours.
Time to figure out how to remove top console 2 hours.
