How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008880 / WP3949238 Lid Switch Assembly

I replaced the lid switch. 

Watched video for door switch and used staple to bypass switch as shown. Then replaced lid switch. 

I ordered a new lid switch & installed. That fixed the spin problem but not the leak. It required a new water pump, which fixed the leak. 

I purchased four parts as I wasn't quite sure what I needed. I bought the motor coupler, transmission clutch, agitator pawls and and lid switch. The repair wasn't too bad outside of the transmission being somewhat difficult to remove. I would suggest that the repair video which showed how to repair the clutch be modified to include: "make sure that the skate plate is in the correct position before up righting the machine". Not knowing to check the "skate plate" was my downfall as I reassembled everything and test ran the machine only to have it bang around on the spin cycle. So, it's repaired now that I repositioned the "skate plate" with the assistance of my wife. 

First the timer did not move into the rinse and spin cycle. I would move the dial manually to the rinse and spin and nothing happen. But if I press down on the lid switch then it would work. Replaced the lid switch and the timer and now the washer works. I had printed out the instructions for replacing the parts, which were easy to do. Also received parts in two days. 

The site said the most likely cause was the lid switch. I watched the video and took the washer apart to access the switch. Sure enough, the switch housing had cracked and wasn't functional. I ordered the part and popped it back in when it showed up. Easy repair. 

Appliance is a Kenmore, Series 80, Heavy Duty, Large Capacity washer. The problem was a broken Lid Switch. The repair was extremely easy once I figured out how to detach the control panel from the top of the main cabinet and swing it up. I finally figured out that there are two front plastic trim pieces on the ends of the console that just snap in place. They pop out toward the front of the machine. To remove them place a screwdriver behind the trim piece and twist it. 2 screws are then evident fixing the console to the top of the machine. Watch the video, very helpful. Total time to install new lid switch 2.5 hours. Time to figure out how to remove top console 2 hours.

Ordered a Lid Switch Assy from Appliance Parts Pros. Had the new part installed in about 10 minutes. Worked like a charm. 

I fixed it myself by going to your UTUBE site, and I replaced the new one in 1/2 hour. No sweat! Couldn't believe it! You guys gave me the confidence to do it. Now I'm looking forward to the next repair. Thanks.
