• Won't start

First I have an LG French Door with a bottom freezer. It quit cooling. I went on line and watched some very informative You Tube videos. I trouble shot according to these videos. In these videos it shows that if there is a click coming off the compressor it has too meanings, the compressor is froze or the start relay is bad. Checked compressor windings - ok. Start relay looked no rattle or burning. Start capacitor seamed ok but hard to check. No 120VC to start relay at any time. Ordered thermistor, and electronic control unit. Figuring it was a bad thermistor not telling the ECU it was warm and to turn on the compressor. Or the ECU was damaged and was not sending the 120v to the compressor. Changed the thermistor first (cheapest part and as Appliance parts pros has a return policy I wanted to start there). ... Removed old seal and installed new seal. I laid down the new seal in the sun for about 20 minutes and it went in the grove extremely easy. Read more

Had a friend who is an appliance repair tech. Replace the evaporator, the heater coil, and the filter/drier. Parts were soldered together and the compressor was put under vacuum. Then, charged with 5 oz. of refrigerant. The freezer works great now! Read more

Loosened the top half screws, pulled the old seal out, put new seal in, snugged top screws, repeated process for the bottom. Went well, no problems. Read more

Looked for obvious signs of mal-function, burned wires, etc. I found that the compressor controller(attached to the compressor) had an obvious burned-out spot. Took a chance that was the problem (it was); ordered all new OEM parts, including a new timer and run capacitor (a part that kicks in every time the compressor starts). I determined that it was a problem that occurred during the defrost cycle by resetting the GFCI outlet and forwarding the defrost timer until the defroster came on. Once the defrosting began, the GFCI outlet would reliably trip. I took apart the shielding inside of the freezer and tested the defrosting without the heating element or the thermostat connected.
