The Detergent Lid Spring is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for providing the necessary tension to open and close the detergent dispenser lid during the wash cycle.
Over time, the detergent lid spring can wear out, lose tension, or break due to repeated use, exposure to water and detergent, or accidental mishandling. If the spring becomes faulty, the dispenser lid may not function properly, leading to poor washing results.
Symptoms of a bad detergent lid spring include:
- Detergent dispenser lid not opening during the cycle
- Difficulty in closing the dispenser lid
- Inconsistent or incomplete release of detergent
- Visible damage or wear on the spring
This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Latch would not open consistently on detergent dispenser James G. • Waxhaw , NC • January 12, 2015
Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle.
