First off this appliance is 16 years old. The replacement machine is no longer made in the color we need, also the new ones rated very poorly. After taking the appliance apart I discovered the high voltage capacitor had been leaking, probably the odor I had been noticing. Took it off the wall and took it into my work shop. Took it all apart found 1/2" of caked on grease all over everything including the fan. This is the only fan over my stove. Scraped and cleaned it all using degreaser in a spray can for electronics. Removed the ventilation motor and replaced the interior light, Once unit was clean and dry reassembled and reinstalled.
