This is a start relay device that attaches to the compressor and provides the initial electrical boost needed to start the compressor motor. It works in conjunction with the run capacitor to get the compressor running and then disengages once the motor reaches operating speed. Replace this device if the refrigerator is not cooling, the compressor clicks on and off repeatedly, or you hear a buzzing sound coming from the back of the unit.
