This Tub Seal is an OEM replacement part for GE washing machines that is responsible for preventing water from leaking from the tub. This part is located at the base of the washing machine tub and creates a seal between the tub and the transmission to prevent water from leaking out during the wash cycle.
This part fixes the following symptoms-
- Water leaking from the underside of the washing machine.
- A musty or mildew smell coming from the machine.
- Unusual noises during use.
Causes of a bad tub seal can range from normal wear and tear to a misaligned tub or an overloaded washing machine, which puts extra pressure on the seal. Additionally, the buildup of hard water minerals can degrade the seal's material over time.

I put this repair off for a long time because I knew the machine would have to be completely torn down to fix it. The repair videos give you the impression that this condition is caused by a bad 'Tub Bearing' which takes a long time to replace but only costs about $15.
