Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks ! Top mounted freezer with bottom refrigerator. Kenmore Elite Shut off the power Remove all food stuff from freezer (placed in ice chest) then shelves. Removed the ice maker, (easy!) 3 screws and unplugged wires. 2 screws in the back panel. Pulled top forward - downward Unplugged wiring harness from back wall of freezer, removed ground wire from panel Pulled fan blade off. Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle. Read more

After tossing a couple for refrigerators to clean the storage area - we had one good one left taken from an apartment where the resident bought a newer-bigger one. Fridge keept building up ice in defrost drain drain in freezer. Once the drain pan filled with ice it drips into fridge compartment. After taking things apart three times to thaw it out, decided to replace defrost components - heater and temperature switch. In addition to new parts, also added a 12 gauge copper wire hook that hangs from defrost heater into the defrost drain. The drying agent lid was broken for a couple years now and our dishes would never dry completely. We finally decided to google for Kenmore parts and this website came up. The refrigerator was given to me and hasn't defrosted since it was new. I found the defrost timer had a burnt spot on the circuit board. After installing a new timer, the refrigerator would trip the circuit breaker in my house when it entered defrost mode. I found that the pink wire running from the control board all the way to the thermostat was shorted somewhere between the two parts, inside the refrigerator. I ran a new "pink" wire and all is good.
