Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. 1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was. 2. Initially I noticed the crusher drum was cracked and broken so I replaced the drum the retaining nut on the end of the auger and the circlip and washer. it worked fine for a time and then the drum began free wheeling. upon further inspection I discovered the retain nubs on the auger had worn down allowing the blade to slip down the auger body. so I replaced the auger, drum, drive blade, and drive cam. My problem started with a rusting condition in the ice bin that spiraled out of hand. I took apart the ice bin and all the hardware thinking I could clean it with the suggested baking powder. Plastic parts cleaned up like new, metal parts were pitted. I wire brushed and sanded the parts put it all back together and gave it a try.
