Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Agitator wasnt sloshing   Paige B. • Clarksville , TN • January 30, 2015

I looked inside and saw the teeth were worn off the "dogs" so I purchased the Cam Agitator repair kit and a new bolt. Getting the old bolt out was the hardest part since it was worn and rusted. I ended up having to buy a set of socket extensions and a set of stripped bolt sockets so $45 in tools and it took me an hour to get the old bolt out but putting everything back together was a breeze. I was very proud of myself, as a woman, that I fixed this problem myself and didnt have to pay a repair... Read more

Lid Switch
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8054980

This lid switch is the washer's safety interlock. It detects when the lid is closed so the machine can agitate and spin, and cuts power when the lid is opened to stop operation and enhance user safety.

  • Monitors lid position and allows agitation/spin only when the lid is closed
  • Interrupts motor operation if the lid opens during a cycle
  • Common failure symptoms: washer won't start or spin, fills but stalls, stops intermittently, or displays "lid open" alerts
  • Restores proper cycle progression and safety shutoff when replaced
What's included: One lid switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and water supply before servicing
  • Access the switch from under the top panel/console per your model's procedure
  • Release the old switch, move the harness to the new switch, and secure wiring away from moving parts
  • Ensure the lid closes and actuates the switch before reassembly and test run

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Direct drive motor coupling failed wouldn't agitate or spin   Tim H. • Fort Collins , CO • October 18, 2014

Was set to pull the trigger on a new washer since this one was 10+ years old. Broke a $25 lid switch fumbling to get the washer open before I found the appliancepros video library. Once I got things apart the right way I was able to diagnose the problem in 5 minutes. Identified the $10 part needed. Got the $10 coupling and the $25 switch and had the washer working like new in 20 minutes. I'm pretty proud of myself.. not going to tell anyone about the $25 switch. Read more

Ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPros - super fast shipping, and even though I opted for regular shipping all of my parts arrived the very next day, including the big and bulky inner basket. Disassembly went smoothly, simply following the directions in the AppliancePartsPros video. The only problem I had was that the inner basket simply would NOT come of the drive block no matter what I did. Struggled for a few hours trying to take it off. Retainer Ring
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 285353

This retainer ring is a genuine OEM replacement part sourced directly from the manufacturer for use on front load washing machines to hold the boot seal in place. The boot seal is the gasket that seals the washing machine when the door is closed to prevent water from leaking. The retainer ring is located flush against the boot seal and has either a spring clamp or screw clamp that secures it. Over time, this ring may become damaged due to the washing machine's normal use and age. If the ring is not tight, the washing machine could leak when in use. If water is coming from the door, it is a good idea to inspect and replace the retainer ring and possibly the boot as well.Unplug the washing machine to prevent electrocution. Remove the front panel, the detergent dispenser, and the kickplate to access the retainer ring. Locate the clamp on the ring and loosen it. Remove the retainer ring and set it to the side. Inspect the boot and then install the new retainer ring. Tighten the clamp and reassemble the washing machine. This retainer ring is sold as an individual unit. It is designed specifically for washing machines manufactured by Whirlpool.

Fix washer leaks with this fill hose connecting the mixing valve to sensor housing. Common repair for water leaking during fill cycle.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leaks in kenmore washer   Louis K. • Atlantic Beach , FL • January 19, 2020

Replaced direct drive washer pump, the wash tub gasket and the fill hose. I also replaced the direct drive motor coupling since the rubber was deteriorated. Removing the inner wash tub for the gasket change is challenging, especially in older machines. 24 hours before starting the removal, spray penetrating oil around the lip of the washer drive block.
