The curved drive shaft is a hollow piece that holds the drive cable, so that the engine can turn the cutting string. A curved drive shaft allows for more maneuverability and a lighter string trimmer. The curved shaft is also best suited for users who are shorter in height, or working in tight spaces that require more maneuverability. This product is made of durable plastic, but can become dry, worn or cracked over time. Replacement is needed when experiencing excess vibrations in the housing and handles, or excess spinning of the head occurs. If noticeable drying or cracking is observed on the part itself, go ahead and replace to maintain the functionality and safety of use. Replacement is simple, and may require a wrench, socket wrench or screwdriver; depending on type of trimmer. Remove trimmer head and guard by unscrewing the head from the shaft, and unscrewing the wing nuts that hold the guard in place. Using the socket wrench, loosen the locking nut at the top of the drive shaft, depress the alignment pin and remove the old drive shaft. Attach new shaft and reassemble. This part is compatible with Poulan trimmers and is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer, and it is sold individually.
