The Spark Module is an OEM part Bosch ranges and cooktops. This electronic part generates the high-voltage spark needed to reliably ignite the gas burners with the push of a button.

Causes can be issues like component failure over the thousands of ignitions it facilitates. Water ingress could also potentially cause problems.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Unreliable or intermittent burner ignition requiring multiple ignition button presses
  • One or more burners that will not ignite at all
  • Occasionally flashing or error codes relating to ignition issues

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Vivian for Model Number Thermador PCS366US

XLO burners on our Thermador PCS366US cooktop are not working. If the other burners (the ones that are working) are turned on, can get sparking on the XLO burners. Replaced the potentiometers and simmer controller module but the XLO burners still don't work. Also, this created a new issue - the red light goes on when NO burners are lit. This did not happen before - the red light only lights when a burner is lit. Does this mean the spark module needs replacing? Two of the other 4 burners are working, other two are not - ignition the problem as all 4 burners can be lit manually so gas is going to all 4 of these burners. Parts for this model cooktop are not easy to get. We need new spark electrodes and the ones most places are selling DO NOT FIT our model - ceramic body too fat to fit in the burner plate hole. Looking forward to getting the cooktop fixed so more than just 2 burners can be used. Thanks in advance for your help.

Vivian, The most likely cause for the XLO burners to not work would be a faulty spark module which is part number 00753257.

Reg for Model Number PRSG366S

Hello, I've been putting off replacing the 6 burner ignition plugs for some time. Before the parts become unavailable I would like to get this done. I have one igniter that is sitting proper and rigid and ignites the burner. All the others are loose, kind of spark, but do not light the burners. I also have intermittent sparking while the burners are on. Biggest problem I see, is the removal of the brass venturi tube which holds the burner in place. I've heard you can destroy the gas tubes trying to remove....any suggestions? Can the igniters be reached from a removable back panel?? Any help prior to ordering would be appreciated. Thank you, Reg

1 Answer

Reg, You will need to remove the venturi tubes to replace the ignite. To do this you will need to use a pair of duck bill pliers and put them into the venture and open them. Then you will use a screwdriver in the handle of pliers and turn the venturi out.

Dkh for Model Number SGC365RS

I recently replaced both potentiometers and the control unit in a kit. The Xlo burners work now and work well. But, ever since installing this kit, the igniters spark continually, when all the burners are OFF. The only way to stop this, is to unplug the unit, or turn on one of the XLO burners. I have checked all the other switches for the non xlo burners and they seem ok. What would cause the sparking when all burners are off. Only thing changed was this kit. Thanks dkh

Dkh, You will want to check all of your igniters to make sure that they are not going bad and also check for loss of ground to the igniter. These would be the most likely cause of the issue.

Hello Andrew. If there is no gas or spark, the knobs may be broken that turns them on. Check those first. If they are good, then the new thing to check would be the wiring on the unit and the igniter.

Bruce for Model Number MODEL_PBK0190

I have been having to manually lite my grill for some time and would like to repair the ignition system while parts are still avail. Symptom: When I push and turn knobs (left) to activate the igniters, the indicator lite will illuminate and I will hear one click and see a single spark at each igniter. If I repeat the attempt 3 or 4 times w/o success, I will then get no click or spark. On very rare occasions I will hit what seems like an elusive little sweet spot in the knob's rotation and it will function as designed i.e push-turn knob-rapid click, click, click burner ignition. Can someone please suggest a diagnosis procedure and or part replacement.

Bruce, It sounds like the ignition switch for the unit is the issue but unfortunately we do not have any information on this model. The model is not coming up as being valid.

Rodney for Model Number RDSS30 S/N 9707 & UP

Thermador RDSS30QW. None of the cooktop burners light anymore and no clicking sound. We are able to light the two right burners manually. Left burners won't light manually as designed. Thinking that maybe the spark module is not working since all 4 burners no longer work. Thermador P/N is 486771 which cross-references to AP5691482. However the compatibility check says it is not compatible with RDSS30 S/N 9707 & UP. When I looked up parts by model number all those seem to fail the explicitly compatibility check.

Rodney, The spark module kit for your unit would be the part that is needed and is part number 00753257. If the part is not showing on your models parts list then it will not show in the compatibility chart but this will work for your unit.

Hello Anthony, This sounds more like you are losing a ground or there is a wiring issue. You need to dis-assemble the inside of the unit to access the bake burner and check the wiring down there that is exposed to the heat of the bake compartment. If no problem is located, you should then consider the control module. You will need to verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag since the model number you listed does not come up as valid.

Marty, The most likely cause for the units light on the front panel to start flickering and no spark would be a faulty simmer control which is part number 00422882.

Ems, With the Front left burner sparking but no gas coming to the burner, this issue would be caused by a faulty gas valve. The part number for the valve is 00415516.

Hello Rich, The fixing kit is the manufacturers' fix for a known problem with the original design that was causing failures. The kit is not required on your unit. If you need the simmer control you will need to order part number 00645446. If you need the potentiometer you will need to order part number 00422748. If you need both, you will have to order the two parts separately since, for your model, there is no kit containing all parts needed.
