Symptoms of a failing user control board include:

  • Fluctuating or unresponsive temperature settings
  • Inoperative display, lights or control buttons

Causes can include normal wear from extended use. Exposure to temperature fluctuations inside the freezer can also deteriorate electronic connections over time.

For Frigidaire User Control Board (Part Number: OEM15956754)

Bob, you will want to check the wiring to ensure that there are no breaks or bare spots going to the door. If there are any breaks or bare spots that could ground out, this can cause a power failure. Otherwise, the other possibility would be that the control has an intermittent failure. Most likely there is a wiring issue based on what is described.

Jon, I would remove the bulb assembly and check to see if there is voltage present when the bulb goes out. If there is no voltage, I would recommend replacing the main control on the ddor, 297235200

Al, That harness is foamed in the door and is not repairable. You would need to replace the door. Part # 297316303 is the panel.

Jason, hopefully there is nothing seriously wrong, it takes at least 24 hours for temperatures to return to normal. By turning it off and letting it sit for a while would thaw any frost build up in the freezer section.

Jaybird for Model Number FFU17F5HWD

Freezer quit. I unplugged it for a day, plugged it back in and it came on. Freezer works great but the compressor ran all the time. (-10ºF). After a period of time I noticed the outside walls of the freezer was hot and the freezer setting indicator was blank with HiTemp and Door Ajar lights on. Pressing the reset button did no good. I unplugged the freezer for 30 seconds and plugged it back in. Indicator light back on and I changed setting from 5 to 4. Freezer now at +10ºF but I think the compressor is still running continuously AND the outside walls are still hot. Bad control module, thermostat, timer or all three? Oh, the inside lightbulb appears to be good but does not come on. TIA for your help.

Jaybird, This issue sounds like it would be caused by a faulty control board on the unit.

Hello Tim. To manually enter the defrost mode, turn the freezer off, then press “Warmer” an additional four times. A “d” will flash on the display for the thirty minutes of the defrost cycle. To exit the manual defrost before it is complete, press “Warmer” four times. When the defrost mode ends, the freezer will go back to the previous temperature setting and the compressor will run. “d” is only displayed in this mode, standard auto defrost displays the control setting.

Charles for Model Number ffu14f5hwn

Hello I have a frigidaire or how ever it is spelled up right freezer. The light inside does not come on(bulb works, i tested it) . Model is ffu14f5hwn. It no longer cools the food , will not kick on, the temp control on door (digitial) is not working right, shows partial numbers with random letter or number then back to gibberish. Unit is 4-5 yrs old. I need to know what I can do to fix it. I do not want to scrap it, just want to fix it myself, with out paying for it all over again via a repair man. Any help appreciated. Was looking at the electric control board as a suspect.
