Lindaw1950 February 20, 2016 for Model Number PLES389DCB One of the indicator lights on the range glass top stays red when the burner is off. Burner works fine. Is there a replacement switch for this. 0 0 0 - number 3 position 0 0 Thanks!
1 Answer Linda, Your post information would indicate that the right rear element "hot surface" indicator light is illuminated when off and the top is cool. This would indicate the right rear element sensor has failed and will need to be replaced 318198817 / 318198810, not a switch. Thanks Read More...

Pat October 16, 2015 for Model Number 790.9641.240B We are attempting to replace a dual right front burner for our Kenmore electric range, model 790.9641240B. We moved each of the 5 wires, one at a time, to the same position, from the old burner to the new burner. The new burner still does not work, and the "Element" light is always on. Thank you
1 Answer Hello Pat, The manufacturer has changed vendors on these elements so you will have to look closely at the ceramic side of the temperature limiter for the terminal labeling. There will be a 1a, 1b, 2a, and 2b labeled on the ceramic part in such a way that it is nearly invisible. To view the labeling, you have to shine a flashlight on it from the side to read the shadowing. The connections will be the same although you will have to put the wires on the appropriate terminals as labeled, (wires will connect to the same terminals which will now be in different locations). Dave October 08, 2015 for Model Number GLEC36S8CBB When turning on right front 6 or 9 in burner, it will go and off until I shut it off. Do I replace the switch or element?
1 Answer Hello Dave. The element is suppose to cycle on and off to maintain temp. This is the way these are designed. If it is not heating properly, replace the switch. Read More...
John Evan September 19, 2015 for Model Number E36EC75ESS5 The right front burner does not heat as well as it used to. The inner/smaller section takes a long time to heat while the larger/outer section heats up quickly The left front burner (same type element but used less) works fine. My feeling is that the element is good OR bad, no in between. Is there a thermostat that might need to be replaced or is it the element. Thanks very much for your answer.
1 Answer John, The most likely cause for this issue would be a faulty element. The element has a limiter on it but cannot be replaced separate. Read More...
Bert L August 13, 2015 for Model Number 970686028 I recently bought from Sears a left front dual element for a Kenmore Glass top stove they provided a substitute element part no 316555800. When wiring is installed in the same pattern as the former element it does not work. Is there a problem with the wiring sequence or with the new element?
1 Answer Hello Bert. You will need to check and make sure the old element and new element terminals are the same. If not, then they may wire differently. Also, you need to test and see if the issue is the switch for that element. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...

1 Answer Hello I.J., The service information reads as follows: 1. Disconnect power from the range. 2. Open the oven door and remove the two Phillips screws holding the main top to the front frame and raise the main top. 3. Tag and disconnect wires from the element to be removed. 4. Remove the two screws, one on each end, of the element support bar. 5. The element is held to the support bar by 2 spring load clips. With a pair of needle nosed pliers squeeze the tab on the spring mounting clip and push the element away from the bar. 6. The clips are held to the element by screws. When replacing the element be sure to note the hole number that the clip is attach to the old element. Read More...
