The Defrost Timer is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire upright freezers. It serves as a crucial component responsible for regulating automatic defrost cycles.

Causes of a faulty defrost timer relate to 20,000+ hours of constant exposure to freezer temperatures as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Such extremes can compromise electrical switching mechanisms over prolonged usage periods.

Symptoms of a failed defrost timer include:

  • Inability to initiate automatic defrost modes
  • Excessive ice and frost accumulation inside cabinet
  • Warm areas detected due to impaired fan circulation
  • Diagnostic codes indicating defrosting problems

This genuine Frigidaire replacement part is compatible with Kelvinator and some Kenmore units as well.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Defrost Timer (Part Number: OEM20399667)

1 Answer

Trevor, With nothing on the unit operating then the most likely cause for this issue will be the timer that is faulty. The timer is located in the back of the unit. Try to turn the dial and see if the unit comes on. If it does then this means the timer was stuck in defrost and the timer would need to be replaced. The part number for the timer is 5304518034.

Emma, It really depends on the amount of ice that has accumulated on the evaporator. You can always advance the timer into defrost again until the ice is gone if the defrost thermostat is still closed.

Jim for Model Number LFFH17F3QWA

Upright freezer, I keep finding water coming from underneath 1-2 times per day. Drain pan is dry, drain hose is clear. I turned the knob on the timer; there are 2 lines on the timer, one larger than the other, and there is a notch on the timer knob. The knob only turns in one direction. I find in the interior bottom of the freezer there is ice, and the holes which appear to be to let water out to the drain hose are completely iced over. Where do I go from here? Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

1 Answer

Jim, the drain hole being iced over is an indicator of the drain line being clogged. You will want to clear the built up ice on the drain hole and flush the drain with hot water. The water should pour directly down the drain and not accumulate in the drain pan.

Curt, You will want to pull the rear wall of the freezer and check the frost pattern on the evaporator coils. If there is very little or no frost pattern then this will be an issue with the sealed system and will need service. If the coils are impacted with ice then check the defrost thermostat and defrost heater for continuity. If there is continuity then this will be a issue with the defrost control.

Hello Thomas, This is most likely the temperature control 216303600. I'm sorry but this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Lynda. As long as the unit is the correct temp, then it is working properly. It is not uncommon for it to run several times a day to regulate the temp in the unit. If the temp is not correct, then look for a defrost issue or bad cold control. Thank you.

Christopher, You will need to check the coils in the freezer to make sure that the coils are not impacted with ice. If they are then test the defrost thermostat and heater for continuity. If these check ok then the issue will be the timer. If there is no ice or very little ice then this will be a sealed system and will need to have service.
