The Bake Element is an OEM replacement part for GE electric ranges. It is the internal heating element located at the bottom of the oven cavity that provides heat for baking and convection cooking functions. This heating element measures 17 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches.

Causes of a bad bake element include failure due to normal wear and tear over extended use. Exposure to spills or splatters inside the oven can potentially damage heating coils or insulators.

Symptoms of a bad bake element are:

  • Inconsistent or uneven baking temperatures
  • Element does not heat up or turns red but puts out no heat
  • Buzzing/humming sounds from beneath oven cavity
  • Failure of oven to operate or preheat as expected

This OEM part is also compatible with ranges sold under the Hotpoint, RCA and some Kenmore brands.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Bake Element (Part Number: OEM21648573)

1 Answer

Perla, You can access the back of the bake element and disconnect one side of the element wires. Then turn the oven on to bake and test the loose wire for 120 vac to ground. Then you will want to check the terminal you disconnected the wire from for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac at one of these points then follow the wire back to where the source is and replace that part. If there is 120 vac at each point then the bake element would be the issue. This will likely be a control issue.

Rhonda, You will want to test the oven sensor WB21X5301 for a resistance of 1090 ohms. If the resistance is off then it would need to be replaced. If this checks ok then the issue is likely the element part number WB44K5012.
