For Ge Cooktop Infinite Switch (Part Number: OEM7894365)

Christine for Model Number JP340WOA2WW (or JP340WA2WW)

I have a 2001 GE glass cooktop, not a range. When I turn on the large front right element to level 6 or above (med high) and then want to lower the temp to 4 (medium) after it is hot, it does not lower and stays at that higher temp and the element continues glowing red. I then need to turn it completely off, wait 10-15 seconds for it to cool a bit (and I can hear it 'thunk' off) then I can turn it back on to the lower temp level and it is fine. Do I need to replace the element or the switch? I presume the parts for the model JP340WA2WW will fit my model.

John for Model Number JP3432S3BG

While cleaning my GE Profile Radiant Cooktop I removed the element selector knobs to clean a spill underneath. Afterward I turned the unit on and got a big pop and threw the breaker. I removed the knobs again and found that either the spill or maybe the cleaning solution must have seeped into one of the element switches. I could see the gasket had slightly worn and I fear this was the problem. My question is how do I disassemble the unit to look at replacing the element switch? Hopefully this is something I can repair without replacing it with a new one. Thanks.

Hello John. Disconnect the power and remove the cooktop from the install. The remove the burner box to access and replace the switch in the unit.

Eric, the right front burner control switch is part number WB24X29364 and the left front burner control switch is part number WB23M9. You will need to remove the knobs from the cooktop and remove the cooktop from the burner box. Once the cooktop is removed you'll have access to the burner controls. Remove screws holding the control and remove the wiring from the control. Install the parts in reverse order. Thanks!
