The Icemaker is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is designed to produce ice cubes by automatically filling the ice mold with water, freezing it, and then ejecting the ice into the ice bucket. This part ensures a steady supply of ice for your household needs.

Causes of a bad icemaker can include mechanical wear and tear, electrical failures, or issues with the water supply. Over time, the icemaker’s components can degrade, leading to inconsistent ice production or complete failure.

Symptoms of a bad icemaker include:

  • No ice production
  • Small, misshapen, or hollow ice cubes
  • Ice maker not ejecting ice
  • Unusual noises from the ice maker

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Tim, Based on the model I would check for 120vac coming to the ice maker on the brown and orange wires. If the power is there then you likely have an icemaker issue, if it is not there then you will need to locate where the power is being lost.

Ice, it is always recommended that the manufacturer recommended part is used as this would ensure that it will work properly. There is an operational difference between the manufacturer recommended ice maker WR30X10093 for your model compared to the ice maker WR30X30972.

Randy for Model Number GE TFX25JPCCWW refrigerator

I bought model number WR30X30972 icemaker and replaced it in my GE refrigerator. My question is it has an on/off switch. Do I have to turn it off everytime the box is full of ice and back on when it gets low on ice? My old icemaker had a lever that would shut off automatically until it got low on ice and would automatically start on its own making ice again. I never had to physically turn it on and off everytime. Is there a way I don't have to do that?

1 Answer

Randy, This Ice maker uses the plastic arm at the bottom of the ice maker to turn it off automatically when the bucket gets full enough for said arm to get caught by the ice cubes just like the old one did with the wire. The on and off positions are for if you want to turn it off.

Jim for Model Number GTS19KSNBRSS

I recently purchased GE refrigerator GTS19KSNBRSS and wanted to put in an ice maker. The website noted to purchase GE icemaker kit IM4D, so I purchased and installed. It did not power up. It came with ice maker WR30X28698 with a blue label. The freezer had a tag that said it needed a red label. I looked at the GE website and it says on the parts replacement page to use WR30X30972 which has a red label. It looks like one of the differences could be the pin connector. Is there a way to know the kit from IM4D is compatible? or is there a way to convert WR30X28698 to function like WR30X30972? Thank you!

1 Answer

Jim, based on the manufacturer's database, the ice maker WR30X30972 would be needed as there would not be a way to convert the blue labeled ice maker.

Linda, as the ice maker is continuing to make ice while in the off position, this would generally indicate a failed ice maker (based on the ice maker part number WR30X30972). However, if the model number of the appliance could be provided in a new inquiry, this will allow for the most accurate information to be presented.

Denny for Model Number PSHS6MGZBESS

My ice maker on a regular basis (every few days) seems to create a lot of heat melting the ice in the bin and increasing the overall temp in the freezer compartment. It seems that during the portion of the cycle when the "fingers" are expelling the ice from the freezing tray and when the heating element momentarily activates so the ice is released from the tray, the element stays on creating excess amounts of heats. Should I replace the ice maker unit? What else may be occurring to cause this malfunction? It is very inconvenient to try and get ice but find it frozen together in the bin.

1 Answer

Denny, if the ice maker WR30X30972 is stalling in its harvest during the heating portion, this would be an issue with the ice maker motor itself and the ice maker would need to be replaced.

Marti, the tube going to the ice maker WR30X30972 in the freezer will need to be checked for ice build-up. If there is an ice build-up, then the valve WR57X10051 has failed. If there is not an ice build-up, the ice maker will need to be placed into a harvest mode by pressing the ice maker arm in and releasing it quickly 5 times. Once the ice maker is harvesting, the valve can be tested for 120 VAC when the ice maker is near the end of the harvest. If the valve receives 120 VAC, then the valve has failed. If the valve does not receive 120 VAC, then the ice maker is the issue.
