Questions & Answers

For Ge Dispenser Touchpad (Part Number: OEM13088709)

Mark, You would test power at the main control board but if the display is blank and it has been replaced and the connection at the bottom of the door is good then the control will be the most likely cause for the issue.

Heath for Model Number GSS25WSTFSS

My GE Side-x-Side refrigerator control display is no longer working. I was able to see the temperature show on the display when I would depress the switch to dispense water, but then it would go dark and no water or ice would come out. I could change the temperature. I tried unplugging the refrigerator and resetting it, but when I plugged it back in, the display went dark and no buttons work and no lights on the display come on. I checked the base of the freezer door, and don't see any issues there. I did notice a white wire coming from the sheathing from the freezer door that was not connected to the plastic connector, but it was does not look like it was connected. There is a black and blue wire connected to the housing from that sheathing, and the other end of the connector contains a black, blue and red wire that head back under the unit. Is the display board the culprit? I took it off of the freezer door and disconnected and reconnected the wiring to no avail. Please advise. Thanks. Heath

Heath, You will want to access the control board in the back of the unit and check for 12-24 vdc at the J4 connector between pins 1 and 2 and between 1 and 3. If there is voltage between 1 and 2 but not 1 and 3 then the dispenser control is the issue. If there is not voltage between 1 and 2 then the main control board would be the issue.

Hugo, The most likely cause for the temp display and the switching of the ice or water selection would be a faulty dispenser control board WR55X10859.

Jack, You will want to disconnect the water line at the bottom of the freezer door and push the button to see if there is water that comes from the line. If there is water that comes out then the line in the freezer door is frozen and you would need to get the heater for the water tube which is part number WR49X10173. If no water comes out then you will want to replace the water valve as it would most likely be the cause.

Bruce A for Model Number ge side by side refridgerator model # gss23wstass

About a week ago, the refridgerator started to periodically not dispense ice of any kind even though it continued to make ice. It also would not dispense water and then it just went black and it does nothing. Has the dispensing panel board failed and if so, is it hard to replace. Aside from this problem, the refridgerator works fine. As mentioned, it continues to produce ice and maintain the factory set temps for the freezer and refridgerator. Thank you for any help you can provide.

1 Answer

Bruce, You will want to first check the wiring harness at the bottom/top door hinge, whichever it is located on your unit, for loose or broken wires. If there are loose or broken wires then they need to be repaired. If the wires check ok then most likely the display board is bad and would need to be replaced. To remove just grasp the lower part of the display and pull out from the bottom to release.

Lee, You will want to pull the kickplate off and check the wire harness connection at the bottom of the freezer door for corrosion or for loose connections. If there is it can cause the issue that you are having. If this checks ok then the user interface would be the most likely cause.

John

Our GE fridge/frezer GSS25QGTABB control panel on the freezer door has stopped working. At first the ice/water did not work and now even the temperature control does not work. Your sales folks (very good friendly service) suggested part number AP4362900. Before I order that part I have a couple of questions. I checked the wiring at the bottom of the freezer door and there does not seem to be any split in the wire. I did see a plug on that wiring harness that has nothing plugged into it. Maybe that is a plug for diagnostics? Also - is there a possibility that something else could be wrong? Thanks for your advice.

1 Answer

Hello John, The plug at the bottom of the door with nothing attached is for diagnostic checks. The only other part other than the dispenser interface WR55X10859 would be the main control board. You would want to check power coming to the dispenser from the main board. It is 12vdc that comes to the dispenser. You will want to access your wiring diagram to see which wires to test.

John for Model Number GSS25QGTABB

A few weeks ago our ice and water dispenser quit working but we could still control the temp. Now the entire control panel does not work. I checked at the bottom of the door to see if there was a pinched or broken wire on the wiring but it appers to be ok. There is a connector in the wiring harness that has nothing plugged into to it but I could not find any empty plug. Your phone rep (Tom who was very helpful) suggested that it might be part number AP4362900 that may need to be replaced. Is there a way to check that board? Do you have any ideas or suggestions? The temperature in the fridge seems to be holding at 37 degrees. Is that part difficult to replace? Thank you very much for your assistance. Have a great 2013.

John, You can check for 12 VDC at the J4 connector pin 1(black) to pin 2(red) on the dispenser board. If you have the voltage, then the dispenser board WR55X10859 has failed. No low voltage would indicate a faile main control board WR55X10942C or loose/broken wire connection. It does sound like an issue in the dispenser board, It may have a degrading circuit in the board tracers or transformer.

Hi Jimmy. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Look under the top freezer door hinge and see if there is a unplugged pin connection or a burnt one. IF the freezer is not getting cold enough is your first issue. Open the door and feel the center divider. If it is warm to touch this is normal. If it is hot to touch then the freon is getting boiled by either a clogged condenser coils(condenser coil cleaning brush part # TJ103) a stopped cond. fan motor part # WR60X10209 or both. Remove the freezer inside back wall and see if the evaporator fan part # WR60X10185 is turning up to speed. Evaporator Fan Motor - Made by GE. This DC evaporator fan motor is used on those that DO NOT have a thermistor wired into the connecting harness. For the motor WITH the thermistor order WR60X10074. Do you see a complete frost pattern across the coils ? Temperature Sensor - Thermistor for sensing temperatures. Item Number: WR55X10025. It should read around 10K at room temperature. The thermistor may have 5% tolerance only. Thank you.
