The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE electric and gas dryers. This safety component monitors the door closure, preventing operation if the door is not securely closed and latched. The switch measures 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.

Symptoms of a faulty interlock switch include:

  • Dryer failing to start or running with the door open
  • Timer display not illuminated when start button is pressed
  • Inability to open the dryer door during operation
  • Dryer suddenly stopping mid-cycle before fully drying clothes

Causes relate to the internal component contacting the door frame over 50,000 open/close cycles potentially exposing wiring to wear. Regular cleaning the external switch area prevents dust or lint buildup skewing performance.

This genuine GE switch is compatible with Hotpoint and RCA dryers as well.

Note: Can be used as a dishwasher door switch on specific models. Check your model number for the most accurate results.

Sue, It's a bit involved, but nothing you can't handle. Just remember to turn the power off to the dishwasher before you start, and label any wires you disconnect, you'll find it a lot easier, when you start the repair procedure. Here's the basics. " DOOR COMPNENTS The door components are accessible by removing three(3) screws from each side of the inner door and one(1) screw at the top near the latch. Carefully separate the inner door panel from the outer door panel. Raise the inner door panel." You would then have access to the latch assembly WD13X10003 and the switch WD21X10261.

Hello Mike. Based on the information you provided it sounds like the motor WE17X22217 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. If the unit runs, as long as the switch is held down, then the switch in the motor is bad and the motor is bad.

Hello Matt. The motor switch in the motor causes the motor to continue to run. If the motor does not run, unless the start switch is held down, you will need to replace the motor WE17X10010 in the unit. Also, if the motor overheats, and then shuts off, and needs to be cooled to restart, this is a sign of the motor as well. The heating issue can be caused by the motor as well, if the switch is failing in the unit. Hope this helps.

Hi Doug. On the back inner bulkhead, is your heater cover assembly. This is right behind the drum assembly. There should be a single thermal fuse on the upper right side. There are 2 more on the upper Lt. side to reference safety fuses. You always remove all power first. then you remove at least one wire to "isolate" the item that you are testing. They all should read closed. This thermal fuse on the rt. will stop all operation. This part # is WE4M137. Thank - you.
