The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE electric and gas dryers. This safety component monitors the door closure, preventing operation if the door is not securely closed and latched. The switch measures 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.

Symptoms of a faulty interlock switch include:

  • Dryer failing to start or running with the door open
  • Timer display not illuminated when start button is pressed
  • Inability to open the dryer door during operation
  • Dryer suddenly stopping mid-cycle before fully drying clothes

Causes relate to the internal component contacting the door frame over 50,000 open/close cycles potentially exposing wiring to wear. Regular cleaning the external switch area prevents dust or lint buildup skewing performance.

This genuine GE switch is compatible with Hotpoint and RCA dryers as well.

Note: Can be used as a dishwasher door switch on specific models. Check your model number for the most accurate results.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Interlock Switch (Part Number: OEM11984304)

Joe, the belt switch WD21X10261 would need to be tested for continuity while it is being activated as if the drum belt is in place. If the switch has continuity, the failure would be in the drive motor WE17X22217.

Elizabeth, Based on the information provided I would check the heating element and make sure it is not shorted to case ground. WE11M23

Ken, with the power disconnected, you may want to test the idler spring switch WD21X10261 for continuity while the idler arm is activating it. This switch should have continuity when being activated. If the switch does not have continuity, then it has failed and would need to be replaced. If the switch tests good, and there are no broken wires anywhere, then the centrifugal switch on the motor has failed and the motor WE17X22217 would need to be replaced.

Sid

Hello, I have the following dryer: DCVH680EJ1WW Recently, the dryer stopped tumbling/spinning, so I took it apart and found a broken belt lying on the dryer floor. I ordered a replacement belt and thanks to your super helpful video, was able to install the new belt. However, when I turn on the dryer and hit the start/pause button, I just hear one "click". I checked the newly installed belt and the motor turns when the drum rotates, so I am assuming that the belt has been installed correctly. It would be great if you could please help or let me know if I am missing something. Thanks, Sid

Sid, you may want to check the broken belt switch WD21X10261 located in between the idler pulley and the cabin wall for continuity while the pulley is away from it. If the idler pulley engaged the switch too forcefully, it could cause the switch to have an open circuit when disengaged. If this is the case, it will need to be replaced.

Prajesh, For a proper diagnosis, we would need you to please verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag since it will not come up for us as a valid model number.

Hello Karen, you would need to take the door apart to check the latch/interlock switch area to check what failed or is stuck closed. If needed the latch is part WD13X10003, the interlock switches are part WD21X10261, you would need two switches.

Hello Del, You will need to use an ohm meter or a continuity tester to check the interlock switch. This is done by touching the meter leads to the terminals on each end of the switch at the same time and checking for 0 ohms of resistance with the ohm meter or continuity with the continuity tester, (continuity meters will beep if connection is good).

Matt Hart for Model Number GTD45EASJ2WS. GE Dryer.

White GE Dryer model# GTD45ESJ2WS. I recently replaced the drive belt on the dryer which I ordered through you'll got it cheaper than anywhere else and also received it faster. But now im having another issue with the same dryer. I turn the knob to the desired time and push the start button. Dryer drum is rotating now but as soon as I let go of the start button the dryer shuts itself back off. As long as I'm holding the gray start button down the dryer works fine drum spins and it heats up but as soon as release the start button it turns everything off. HELP PLEASE.

1 Answer

Matt, When the unit shuts off as soon as you release the start button then this will be a faulty centrifugal switch on the motor. This would require a new motor for the unit.

Tony for Model Number GTDP490ED2WS

I have removed the interlock switch. However, I dropped it before I could distinguish which side should be mounted in which direction. Could you tell me which side should be mounted in which direction ? One side on the old part reads NO and the other said says COM and one side(NO) seems to set higher than the other as well(I am referring to the prongs to which the wires attach to). Which side should face the front of the dryer toward the door and which goes toward the rear ? Thanks !

1 Answer

Tony, Because this is a 2 connector switch it will not make a difference which direction it will face as there will be one wire connected to each side.
