Bill, we can not recommend using [WR9x499] as a replacement as it is not an approved substitute by the manufacturer and the operation difference can possibly cause further issues with your appliance.

Sal for Model Number GE Model TFX25PPBE WW

I have a side by side GE refrigerator. The compressor doesn't always come on. This is noticeable as the ice cubes starts to melt in the freezer section. To get the compressor running, i tap on the temperature control located in the fresh food section and the compressor will come on. This happens repeatedly. Therefore, my guess is that i have an intermittent temperature control problem. However, given that the temperature control, part # WR9X599 is discontinued, is there something else that can be causing this problem ?

The top shelf of my refrigerator freezes liquids. The rest of the refrigerator/freezer works fine. Since it's only the top shelf that freezes, is the problem the thermostat or possibly something else? If it's the thermostat only, the part is WR9X599, which I can't locate. If it is the thermostat, is there a generic part for my G.E. refrigerator? Someone said because its an isolated incident on the top shelf only, it may be the air flow fan or something else. Thank you

Hello John, This is going to be an air circulation issue, most likely caused by the way the refrigerator is loaded. I'm sorry about the way this sounds since I am not trying to blame you, but the cold air from the freezer side enters the fresh food section and has to mix with the warmer air in the fresh food side. Items closer to the inlet duct from the freezer side will tend to try to freeze if the air cannot circulate properly through the fresh food side and back to the freezer side through the lower duct back into the freezer side. If the temperatures are about 0°F to 10°F on the freezer side and the fresh food side measure about 35°F to 38°F, the temperatures are correct and the air circulation just needs to be improved by spacing items in the fresh food side differently so the air temperatures can mix more evenly. It does not sound like the fresh food temperature control WR9X599 will be an issue. By the way, you cannot locate this part because it has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Gino. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the control board. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Geno, With the freezer temp running 14 degrees and the fresh food section at 55 then both sections are too warm. The freezer should run at about 0 degrees. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Milan M for Model Number GE TFX25PPBBWW

On my side by side GE Profile, the fresh food section works fine (around 38F), but the freezer is around 20F with the temp control turned to the coldest setting for both sides. I haven't checked the coils yet, but was wondering if that could be either the cold control or the damper. I've also noticed that the ice maker has been making less (and smaller) ice in the last month. Don't know if that's because of the loss of cooling or possibly a leak.

Milan, You will definitely want to check the coils on the unit to make sure that you have a complete frost pattern. An incomplete frost patter could be caused by a leak in the refrigerant system. You will also want to check to make sure that the condenser fan motor is working. An inoperative fan motor would cause the compressor to shut down prematurely. This would cause the compressor to overheat and shut down.
