The Temperature Sensor is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators, designed to accurately monitor and relay the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments to the electronic control board. By detecting the slightest changes in internal temperature, the sensor allows the control board to make real-time adjustments to the cooling system, activating the compressor and fans as needed to maintain optimal conditions for food preservation.

Over time, the temperature sensor can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or general wear and tear. A malfunctioning sensor can lead to improper temperature regulation, affecting the efficiency of the refrigerator and the freshness of stored food.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer not maintaining the set temperature
  • The appliance running continuously or more frequently than normal
  • Inaccurate temperature readings displayed

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM9556230)

1 Answer

Rob, the next step would be the motherboard [WR55X10560] as this is the part responsible for reading the temperature sensed by the thermistors.

Hello Judy, The freezer thermistor is located under the WR02X10944 freezer thermistor clip. You can google the part number and click images for an illustration of what this part looks like.

Josh, It would be a good idea to test the temperature sensor which at that temp should be around 34K ohms of resistance and if it does not check good then this would need replaced. If this checks ok then the issue may be in the damper not fully opening or a fan that is not blowing air properly.

Hello, my refrigerator recently started super-cooling and freezing everything despite being set on the highest temp. At the same time, my freezer is not staying as cold. I had someone come out and look at it and they are telling me my compressor is bad due to it running so hot. While the compressor may be bad/hot I don't see how that could cause the refrigerator to freeze everything (seems we'd get the opposite). My searches are pointing to a bad damper assembly. What are your thoughts? Temp of compressor is running around 195-205F. Temp between fridge and freezer where the doors meet is hot as well.

1 Answer

Joshua, Check the condenser fan next to compressor to make sure that it is running as this would cause the hot between the doors and the compressor to overheat. For the freezing issue the damper would most likely be the cause for this issue.

Jesse, take a look at the back of the freezer section, see if there is any ice or frost built up on the back panel. You may have defrost problem. If so, the heating elements may be bad and need to be replaced.

Larry, Yes, you could have a failed element or bimetal. Element resistance should be 31 ohms bi-metal should be closed in a frozen environment.

I have a GE Profile Bottom Freezer Refrigerator. My freezer section holds temperature but the food compartment section is cooler than it should be. Which sensor is faulty? I believe it is the food compartment section. By the drawings, it does not show where the sensor is. But I believe I have located it on the very top of fridge ceiling behind a plastic cover. Is this correct? The part number is PS34103 and manufacturer part number is WR55X10025 is this correct?

1 Answer

George, You are correct. WR55X10025 is your sensor. This will need to be spliced in and use a moisture sealing grease in your splice.

Having a problem with the freezer at times. ill go to open the freezer, and it will not be cold and water is dripping. I have a separate thermometer in there and at that time its reading 45degrees. if I open the fridge the temp reading for the freezer is saying 0. If I leave it alone for a hour or two the freezer will start working again and get bake to 0. last time it happened I noticed some heat near the top shelf area, I'm guessing its the defrost heater. any impute would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

1 Answer

Robert, check the very back of the freezer section to see if there is a ice build-up on the back panel, this would indicate a defrost problem. Check to make sure the condenser fan motor and compressor is running.

Mary, check for ohms of resistance at the temperature sensor, you should read 86,000 ohms at 0 degrees. If it is off, then you should replace the sensor.
