The Temperature Sensor is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators, designed to accurately monitor and relay the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments to the electronic control board. By detecting the slightest changes in internal temperature, the sensor allows the control board to make real-time adjustments to the cooling system, activating the compressor and fans as needed to maintain optimal conditions for food preservation.

Over time, the temperature sensor can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or general wear and tear. A malfunctioning sensor can lead to improper temperature regulation, affecting the efficiency of the refrigerator and the freshness of stored food.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer not maintaining the set temperature
  • The appliance running continuously or more frequently than normal
  • Inaccurate temperature readings displayed

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Shina for Model Number gsp25xgr/gss25xsr

GE side by side gsp25xgr/gss25xsr I changed the heater element because the fridge was not cooling properly and upon inspection , the heat element was burnt. 6 months after changing , it frost way too much but the defrost goes too far, ie , it defrost till everything in the freezer dripping and wet and the veggies and everything becomes soggy. After this I changed the Heat Sensor and it started frosting for 3 days and then again melting totally. What do you think the issue is . Thermostat or the fridge has to be changed totally ? Thank you in advance

1 Answer

Shina, WIth the defrost heater and the thermistor having been replaced, this would be a control board issue.

Mike, Based on the information provided check the frost pattern on the evaporator to determine if you have a defrost issue. The frost on the back wall is usually an indicator of a defrost issue or an air leak causing the evaporator to freeze up blocking the airflow to the fresh food compartment.

My GE refrigerator stopped dispensing water but is making and dispensing ice. The water inlet valve solenoid (AP6995571) is working correctly with power and water coming out at the coupler below freezer door when the paddle is pushed. This leads me to a frozen line in the door as the problem? Freezer temperature is -3 degrees in the morning (not opened for 12 hours) with the door Panel display freezer temperature set at level 3. It was changed to level 3 from level 5. This did not raise the freezer temperature. What do you recommend?

1 Answer

DJ, I would defrost the entire unit and leave it unplugged for 24 hours to clear the ice from the door. This may help for a while. The second option is to check the temp sensors in the freezer to see if they are operating correctly and replace them if nessery. I would do the defrost no matter what to give a clean slate.

The fans on both the freezer and fridge sides are not running. I changed the circuit board a few years ago. I have been using surge protector's since then. The condenser fan is running all the lights on both sides work. Compressor is not hot to the touch. Just slightly warm. Just enough to tell its on. I can feel a slight vibration. The fan and assembly at the top of fridge was replaced. Thermostat was replaced. Do you think the board is gone?

1 Answer

Hello Justin, the main control board WR55X10942C powers the fans. Suggest you check the freezer evap coils for excess frost build-up that may have blocked the evap fan from turning, if there is no frost build-up and the compressor is running, likely the sealed system has a problem.

The deli drawer of my french door cafe refrigerator is below freezing. The "TempSelectZone" control adjustment from 32F to 36F appears to be not working. I notice a fan motor behind the drawer which I'm not sure if it blows cold air from the evaporator or removes cold air from the drawer. This fan does not appear to turn on regardless of the temp I set the drawer at. Assembly diagram shows a temp sensor somewhere. But I cannot locate it. The food and freezer compartments are operating normally as far as I can see. So it's not a major problem. Nonetheless, I would like to get it fix if it can be done fairly easily.

1 Answer

DL, There is a damper behind the drawer which will be the most likely cause for this issue. The part number needed would be WR17X27084.

I have a problem on the freezer temperature control of my ge side by side. Defrost cycle doesn't start and the evaporator gets frost (cloged with ice). The thermistor WR50X10025 is OK but there is no indication of voltage (DC) and resistance (ohms) in the J1 terminal at the control board. I've run a cable continuity test and it has failed in the 2 segments. It seems broken somewhere between the control board compartment and the thermistor. The cables run between the refrigerator's inner and outer walls and the holes are sealed. Do you have any videos or instructions on how to replace this cable?

1 Answer

Ricardo, The wiring inside the cabinet is a non repairable part and would need to replace the refrigerator if the harness is faulty.

Susan Bello for Model Number PFSS5NFXBSS

Refrigerator and freezer were getting warm - then they would get cold for a few days and then warm again. We used your site and decided it was in need of an inverter board fix. Replaced it and it performed well - for 2 weeks no problem. This morning the temperature display disappeared and the temp in the refrigerator has slowly been rising. Freezer also - more slowly. If I press the Colder controls on display panel the number will occasionally flash and show 2 freezer and 30 Refrigerator which doesn't really match what the temp feels like. If the compressor is working, it is very quiet. We are puzzled by these symptoms. Any idea what is happening?

1 Answer

Susan, The temp that shows on the display is the set temperature for the unit. As for what is causing the display to not operate and the refrigerator to warm, this would most likely be an issue with the main control board based on the symptoms.

Larry, A motorized air baffle can be tested by turning the unit on and off to see if it opens and closes with the unit being turned on and off.

Keith, The sensor for the upper and lower will be the same and they just get cut out and spliced in. It would be recommended to check the evaporator coils to see if they have a full frost pattern. If they do not then this may be a sealed system issue which will require service.

Hello Brian, the other thermistors are for fresh food section temp and deli drawer temp. To test dunk the thermistor in ice water (32deg) and check for about 16k ohms.
