Questions & Answers

For Ge Dryer Timer Resistor (Part Number: OEM6133284)

Mike, If the motor hums, when you turn the start switch, you're getting voltage to the motor, but is it the correct voltage (110-120 VAC). You could bypass the resistor for a temporary test(attach the two wires together). You may want to check and make sure, nothing got stuck in the blower fan and the motor shaft has not seized up. After you check and make sure there are no loose connections at the terminal block and you have 220-240 VAC at the terminal block. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Clay, It sounds more like you have a ducting issue to me. You see, if the unit can't get rid of the moisture, it's blown past the felt drum seals and is recirculated across the clothes. The sensors sense the moisture again and the unit will run forever. When the sensors pick up the moisture, it keeps the timer motor from getting voltage so the timer never advances. You can check it with a Dryer Vent Test Kit W11224254. If you want to check the duct for problems without the kit, disconnect the duct from the unit and turn the unit on, set to an automatic cycle, and let it run for 5 minutes and the timer will advance if no problems with the unit exists.

Hi Fixithome. If you open the dryer door and look on the inside of the inner lint tray area. On one side there are 2 curved stainless sensor bars approx. 8". You may need to take a schothbrite pad and scuff it up to get any residue build up off of it. See now if this helps. Make sure your entire vent system is clear and the outside vent cap works properly. Then try the dryer w/ wet clothes. The sensor bar wires may have disconnected. If the timer motor is + or - 10% of 4500 ohms value, replace this w/ part # WE4M255 . Thank You.

Hello Bob. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly. If the problem continues, the is most likely the resistor WE4M255 not sending power to the timer motor. Hope this helps.

Hi Steve. Resisters are used to drop voltage or resistance in order for the circuit to work safely and correctly as designed. If it is bypassed you will burn wires and / or short out parts. The timer resister is part # WE4M255. They are made cheap enough to replace if needed. Thank You.

Hello Ken. You can test the resistor to see if it is ok with a multi-meter MA-DM1. If it is good, replace the timer. Hope this helps.
