Marvin Schmidt for Model Number GTDP220EF3WW

I bought the drum bearing and 4 front slide bearings. The drum has been rubbing inside the dryer, so I replaced the bearings. That did not do any good - still noisey. when I examined the installed drum, with the top panel removed, I find the the drum sits abour 1/2'" cocked to the right. The left front drum surface is dragging on the inside of the cabinet. Unfortunately this has gone on for a while, anbd the two positioning surfaces on the door panel have been cut through. I cannot find any way to straighten out the durm so it runs true and doesn't scrape the in side of the cabinet. Do you have any suggestions? What would cause this? Thanks, Marv Schmidt

Marvin, To be that far out of line, something would need to be bent or distorted. You may want to start by checking the base and the rear panel for dents dings and scratches then check the feet to insure they're properly leveled and on solid flooring. Check the heater assembly and make sure it is mounted to the rear panel properly, then the front panel and the front tub support and top bearing to make sure they're straight and mounted properly.

Mel, Using pliers to turn/rotate the timer dial shaft, isn't really good. Your best bet would be to replace the timer WE4M532 / WE4M532 and the timer knob WE1M652 / WE1M652 as a "unit". It's not a difficult or expensive repair to make, and will get your dryer up and running properly for quite a while. The parts are in stock and available at this time.

R.B. for Model Number GDTP220EF3WW

My dryer model is GDTP220EF3WW. It won't start. The timer does not make any ticking noises (is it supposed to tick when the dryer is plugged in?) I have tested the door switch (the switch clicks on/off and the light goes on/off). Based on a video, I did a continuity test on the brown wires between the switch and the timer, to test the heat limit switch, which came out good. I similarly tested the start switch, which also came out good. So the problem seems to be pointing to a bad timer. However, before I order a new timer (part we4m533), are there some ways I can test it to be certain it is bad? I have a digital multimeter, and I can do simple continuity testing, but anything beyond that I would need specific instructions on which settings to use on the multimeter. Can I jump some wires to make sure it is the timer thats bad and not the dryer motor? Thank you in advance for all your help!

1 Answer

R.B., You could check at the motor to make sure that there is 120 vac getting to it when the start button is pushed. Also check the belt switch located by the idler pulley to make sure that it is not bad.

Darin, If the timer goes around past the off position into the next cycle then this would be a faulty timer. Otherwise this would be an issue with the motor of the unit.

Hello Pam, As per the wiring diagram for the model provided, you will need the timer to be wired as follows: White to "F", Yellow with black trace to "X", Black from timer motor to "T", Black from End Of Cycle signal to "S", Three brown with one black to "C", Purple to "A", Black from the high limit thermostat to "B", and pink to "H". If you can locate your wiring diagram inside the control panel, this is illustrated on it with all timer terminals labeled with the letter on the timer with a "T" ahead of it to signify that it is a terminal on the timer.
