The Float Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG dishwashers. It is a sensor located inside the dishwasher that monitors water levels during wash cycles. The float assembly precisely indicates water levels to the control system to determine adequate water is available throughout the cleaning and rinsing functions. Proper water level detection is crucial for achieving sparkling clean dishes.

Causes of a faulty float include mineral buildup on sensors overtime, cracks or leaks developing, and damage to electrical wiring from impacts.

Symptoms of a bad float assembly include:

  • Incomplete or inefficient wash cycles due to low water levels
  • Water remaining in the bottom of the tub after a cycle
  • Drainage issues related to inaccurate water level readings
  • Error codes related to improper filling and draining of water

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Sears/Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Float Assembly (Part Number: OEM13313697)

1 Answer

Mike, the float assembly will need to be checked to ensure that the switches are able to be activated and de-activated. The valve can be tested by marking where the water level is after the unit drains. After 1 hour, if the water level rises any, the valve has failed and would need to be replaced.

Annand, The FE Error is caused by either a faulty inlet valve or a control that is faulty. Since the Valve has been replaced the issue will most likely be a faulty main control board.

Phillip for Model Number LDS5540ST

Hello, My LG Dishwasher is giving me an FE error code about 10-15 minutes into a "Normal" cycle. The problem doesn't happen on a "Quick" Cycle. Shortly after the time the soap compartment opens up (whether or not soap is in the compartment), the dishwasher decides to add more water. The problem is, it hasn't drained the water it filled a few minutes ago. This triggers the over-flow and causes the tub to drain and cycle to abort. The valve has no problem opening and closing, starting flow and stopping flow. At the same point in the cycle (every time) it decides to add more water to the tub -- even though the tub is almost completely filled. So far I have removed the float assembly and cleaned out the water float box. The floats move up and down freely. Problem remains. Also of note, when I had the dishwasher pulled out and ran a "normal" cycle, the problem didn't happen. Leading me to believe maybe the washer is off level(?) Do you have any thoughts of suggestions?

1 Answer

Phillip, it may be possible that the drain hose has a partial clog or was slightly pinched and not allowing the unit to drain properly. If it does not drain properly, then there will be an overfill situation and since the normal cycle uses more water than the quick cycle, this will differentiate the over all fill amount.

Andy for Model Number LG

I have been experiencing the float assembly overflowing lately. I have been able to check the float sensors and they are working properly. I do notice that once the first float is made the water continues to fill right until the second float is made. Is there a time delay on the first float or should the water stop after the first float is made? I have seen where posts state that if the pump housing leaks by then it will cause the surge of water during the rinse cycle so I am not sure if the pump housing needs to be replaced of the water inlet valve. Thank you

1 Answer

Hello Andy, The dishwasher fills on a timed basis, therefore, there is most likely a relay in the control that is stuck in the closed position. This will cause the float switch to have to open the electrical circuit that energizes the water valve. For a more detailed diagnosis and possible part numbers to correct the issue, we will need to ask you to please post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Mohd for Model Number LDF6920ST

On my LG LDF6920ST Dishwasher the initial issue was whenever I turn on the main electric supply it would just constantly produce this humming sound. I tried pushing all the buttons (including starting a washing cycle ) and nothing worked as it kept on humming. Next I disconnected the power supply and I had a appliance repair guy show up. I connected the power supply and now it doesn't produce the humming sound but when I turn on a washing cycle it gets in the water but then just stops. I opened the Float assembly and realized it was super dirty. Is that the reason why the dishwasher is not working? Also all throughout this exercise I never see any error code on the display

1 Answer

Mohd It's doubtful your float assembly is the reason for this issue. There could possibly be something stopping the impeller from turning and this would be the humming noise you describe.

John for Model Number lg dishwasher lds5540s

My LG dishwasher, model lds5540s , is not cleaning well. I've cleaned the filter and the interior components. Also checked the water inlet valve. I noticed however that what appears to be the float on the side of the machine is very dark and dirty. It looks like the interior walls of the float are coated with dark debris. Could this be the source of my problem? Also, i can access the side of my unit easily. The float is easily accessible. Can i simply disconnect the float and pop in a new one? Or do i need to uninstall the entire unit, including the sump line? Thanks

1 Answer

Jeremy, It sounds like the float may not be moving up and down freely and would want to check this and may just need a new float assembly.

Terry, No the float assembly doesn't need or have any "routine maintenance", as long as the water is hot enough and you use the proper amount of detergent, you'll be fine. Yes there is a "chopper" blade inside the pump assembly, it is sometimes referred to as a " soft food" chopper or maserater, it will grind larger larger sized waste articles and flush them down the drain system.

Hello Rita, You can either refer to the units' tech sheet to decipher the fault code or you can list it here and we can look up the code. I'm sorry but there is not enough information provided to determine the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
