The Washer Door Lock Switch is an OEM part for LG washing machines. This critical safety feature locks the washer door during operation to prevent it from being opened, which ensures safety and proper functioning. The door lock switch also communicates with the washer's control system to indicate that the door is securely closed and the machine can begin its cycle.

Symptoms of a bad Washer Door Lock Switch include:

  • The washing machine refusing to start, despite the door appearing to be closed.
  • The door failing to lock properly, or the lock releasing prematurely during a cycle.
  • Error messages on the washer's display related to door closure issues.

Causes of a bad door lock switch can include mechanical failures such as worn or damaged locking mechanisms, electrical issues like faulty wiring or failed solenoids, or alignment problems that prevent the door from engaging the switch properly.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Aaron A for Model Number wm2240cw

Ive got a DE code. My switch makes a clicking noise but the latch just twitches if it even moves at all. (I was observing the assembly with the top panel slid back a few inches) This unit was in storage for several months and while I was unpatiently attempting to move it in, it slid off the dolly on to its face with the door kicked open. This dented the face some so I pulled the machine apart and worked the metal with a rubber mallet as close as I could back to the factory form..... and I thought I did a pretty good job. I paid very close attention to the hinges, latch, and the sealing surface and I felt (and still feel) that the mechanical components are aligned and functioning as they should. I threw a new switch at it because of the circumstance, assuming a faulty swith had to be my culprit, and it does the exact same thing. I inspected the wiring to the board and found no obvious faults. I believe my problem is in the board.. now... but I'm deep enough into the machine already and I wanna be able to accurately diagnosis the board as bad before I swap it to find out it's something else. What are the 4 wires going to the switch and what can I test for to confirm a board failure? There is an orange, blue, red, and black. Ive got a meter and understand the basic operations. Thanks for the thoughts. Aaron

Answer

Aaron, With the front panel having been damaged, the DE error code would most likely not be caused by the control board. This issue would most likely be that the front panel needs to be replaced even though it has ben banged out. The reason for this is the door strike is apparently not making contact with the latch assembly and no matter how much it is banged out will most likely have an issue. It is recommended to replace the door strike and the front panel of the unit.
