For Samsung Refrigerator Defrost Heater (Part Number: OEM12408270)

Dave for Model Number RF30HDEDTSR/AA

Hi I noticed the fan in the upper part of refrigerator making noise when I pulled it apart I found the coil freezing around where the fan sits causing the noise it’s not the whole coil only seems to be the top and where the main tubes come into the fridge then to the coil. I would post a pic but I can’t post. It’s a little over a year old very little dust in coils all pretty clean but I blew out anyway. When I took apart about 3 weeks ago and chipped ice and now it’s back I run the fridge temp 34-36 and freezer -2 to 0 haven’t changed. Could the defrost sensor be causing this or could it be low on Freon?

1 Answer

Dave, You would want to check the defrost sensor to make sure that it is good but sounds like there may be a partial restriction in the sealed system and may need service to correct the issue.

Frozen Fingers Ron for Model Number RF266AEWP/xaa

For several years now, I've been defrosting my refrigerator fan every few months. The drain tube froze up and I finally got it cleared again. That helped for quite a while, but we are now getting frozen water buildup under the crisper drawers, and the fan is making that old "iced right up to the gills "noise again. I initially looked up the problem and only found similarly irritated people, but no suggested fixes. Now I see that hope is possible. What parts can we replace to fix this problem once and for all? The fan seems to work fine still. Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Ron, This issue is normally corrected by first clearing all of the ice build-up and clearing the defrost drain. Then replace the evaporator cover assembly DA97-07190G, install a defrost drain heater 819043 and move the evaporator temperature sensor to the other line coming into the rear of the compartment at the top of the evaporator coils. This normally prevents the issue from recurring.

Tom, You will need to modify the connections, remove the plastic connectors from the heater and the wires from the harness, strip the insulation from the four wires and attach or splice them together using butt connectors or wire nuts. The heater will fit and work properly in your refrigerator.

Pat for Model Number F197ACRS/XAA

About a year after purchase, the condensate drain froze. I defrosted it. 2nd and 3rd time happened within a month of each other. I'm thinking it might not just be the clip that dips into the drain. The heater? The temp sensor? What else could it be? The parts are all cheaper than hiring someone and cleaning out the fridge is such a hassle I'd prefer to throw parts at it. What else should I be checking? What else might need replacement? Thank you! Pat

1 Answer

Pat, In most cases this issue would be caused by the probe that goes into the drain tube. The one that is originally on the unit is normally too short. The new part would be DA61-14306A. If this has already been replaced then the sensor would be the most likely cause for the unit to freeze the line. It would tell the control board to come out of defrost too soon which would turn the compressor on and cause the freezing issue.

Ian for Model Number samsung french door refrigerator RF261BEAEWW

The space below the crisper keeps filling with water. I don't see or find a leak a the water filter so I am assuming that it's due to a frozen defrost drain. All the repairs I see on the internet show other models of samsung refrigerators where you can take off the back easily to access the drain, but this model, RF261BEAEWW, does not have the easy access. Can you help me to 1) understand how to confirm the filter is not the issue and 2) understand how to access and fix the defrost drain? Thank you very much.

1 Answer

Hello Ian. You have to remove the shelves and the screws from the back panel. Once they are removed, you can remove the panel from the back of the unit. If it feels stuck, you will need to thaw out the ice before removing it.

Hello Flash. Check for a good frost pattern on the coils. If there is not one, then you have sealed system failure in the freezer and will need an HVAC tech to come out and repair the unit.

Ed, With the holes in the back panel holes getting frost in them, this would most likely be caused by a faulty defrost system. You will want to pull the panel off and check the evaporator coils to see if they are impacted with ice. If they are then you will want to test the defrost sensor to make sure that it is within range. Also check the heater of the coils to make sure that they are good.
