Questions & Answers

For Samsung Refrigerator Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM12406710)

1 Answer

HOA, According to the service manual the resistance would be reading at -9 degrees for the sensor if the reading is at 38.8K ohms. If the unit is not defrosting then test the defrost heater and if this checks ok then replace the control board.

1 Answer

Carlos, Test the defrost sensor for resistance. The resistance reading should be 5K ohms at room temp. The sensor will be located on the side of evaporator coil.

Mark, check the door seals too, the wire may have solved your problem, but a new sensor wouldn't hurt, either. But you decide.

Aimee, The sensor will be located behind the wall of the refrigerator compartment. You will then have access to the sensor which just unplug the old one and plug in the new one.

The fan is still not running. My understanding is it should start right up at start up or shortly there after? What should the 3 line voltages be? I'm reading around 40v per terminal where the fan plugs in. I'm also reading only 107 ohms thru the thermostat sensor at room temperature and open on the thermostat that sits behind the evaporator coils (also at room temperature). Does those parts control the fan motor? Unit is completely defrosted and drained as it has been sitting unplugged with the doors open for 2 days.

Hello Devin, Have a pen and paper ready to write down the fault codes and perform the following: Press the Pwr Freeze—Pwr Cool buttons simultaneously for 8-12 seconds (No sound when both buttons are pressed at the same time) until the display quits blinking. Release the buttons and read Fault Codes. This will also cancel the Fault Mode created by self-diagnosis at power up. The resistance of the sensor does not sound correct but it is unclear which you are testing. We could send you some technical information if you could post a new question and include a valid e-mail address.

Hello, our the fridge part is not cooking at all but the freezer works fine. The evaporator coils were frozen over so we unplugged it and let them drain. We replaced the motor and thermistor is ohming out around the 5k mark (slightly less) the motor connector is showing proper voltage as well. With the motor not operating unless the door is shut what is the easiest way to tell if it is operating properly? And assuming the new motor works what else could be the issue? Thank you!

1 Answer

Hello Devin. Put a phone on record and set it inside the unit and see if the fan runs with the doors closed by recording a short video. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat and fuse. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Sam for Model Number RFG298AARS/XAA

I have a Samsung refrigerator that is 6 years old. In the past few weeks, I have noticed that the temperature in the freezer is not staying consistent. It will be fine some days but sometimes, ice cream is soft and bread is thawing. I thought it was left open. Anyway, noticed today that is was very warm in the refrigerator portion. Checked settings and cleaned under. Tried power freeze option; nothing happened. Unplugged and tried again; still nothing. Walked away and a couple hours later it was running and cooling both sections. Now it is off again. I pulled cover off back and did not see any electronic components that looked burnt. My guess is it is over heating or has relay going bad. Any ideas?

1 Answer

Sam, This issue sounds like the issue would be that the unit is maybe going into defrost and sticking in the defrost mode. This will most likely be a control board issue.

Brian, That sensor is for the temps in the unit and could be causing the unit to not start back up. It would be more likely an issue in the control board causing this issue.
