Questions & Answers

For Samsung Refrigerator Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM12406710)

1 Answer

Jim You will need to test the sensor in the freezer. How to Check Sensor Resistances Accurately Make ice slurry. To do this, fill a cup with ice (preferably crushed), then add water and a teaspoon of salt to make a slush. Mix thoroughly and allow to sit for 2 to 3 minutes. This will give you a 32*F reference. Now, lower the sensor into the mixture and leave for about 1 minute, then check the resistance. It should be very close to 13,300 ohms. Before reinstalling the sensor, be sure to rinse it with fresh water and dry it.

Lenny, You will want to check to make sure that the condenser fan is running and make sure that the condenser coils are clean. If the fan stops or the coils are dirty it could cause an elevated temperature in the freezer compartment causing the ice cream to be soft. If the fan is running and the coils are clean then check to make sure that the setting on the freezer for this unit is set for -2 degrees. If it is then test the thermistor to make sure that it is good. at -2 degrees, test at the control board for a resistance of about 30K ohms of resistance. The connector you will test on the control board will be the CN30 connector and will test from the ground Pin 4 to Pin 5 which is the freezer sensor. You will want to disconnect the connector from the unit when testing.

Delmar, At the top of the freezer compartment or on the back wall there will be a cover in which the thermistor should be located in one of these 2 locations. It will not be the same as the defrost sensor.

Nikhil for Model Number RF197ACRS/XAA

The fresh food part of the fridge has not been able to maintain the temperature. The evaporator coil, when checked, has had a lot of ice and frost build up. In the past I have manually defrosted 3-4 times and cleared the drin but it repeats every month. I checked the defrost sensor and at room temperature the resistance was 5.1 ohm. The heater and the bimetal assembly has a resistance of 500 kohm or so and had continuity. The thermal fuse on the side of the evaporator coil had a resistance of 550 kohm. Is there anything else to verify or do be done to consider that the circuit board is the cause?? Thanks

1 Answer

Nikhil. Based on the readings that you are getting then this issue will be a faulty main control board with everything checking ok.

Conrad, the Defy f640 is a product we have no parts or service information on. But based on your post information and description, the sensors would be the least likely issue, and it would most likely be a fault in the PC board.

Judy, As long as the panel is in there and not falling out then it would not be necessary to put the screws back in. You may want to pull the unit out and check to make sure that the cap on the drain is not plugged up.
