The Alumilastic Cement is an OEM part for Whirlpool appliances, typically used in refrigerators and freezers. It serves as a thermal mastic compound, designed to provide a secure and heat-conductive bond between various components, such as evaporator coils and the interior walls of the appliance.

Causes of a bad alumilastic cement can include drying out, cracking, or losing its adhesive properties over time. This can occur due to age, exposure to temperature fluctuations, or improper application. When the cement fails, it can lead to poor thermal conductivity and decreased cooling efficiency.

Symptoms of a bad alumilastic cement include:

  • Reduced cooling performance
  • Unusual noises from the cooling system
  • Components becoming loose or detaching
  • Increased energy consumption

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Todd, first check the control panel has the ice-making showing as "on", next check the left fresh food door inner liner is fully depressing the light switch, the ice maker bail arm should be in the "down" position and the ice maker compartment is reading below 10 deg, if all this checks ok, next replace the ice maker.

Clay, You will need to check for a clogged defrost drain tube. You'll need to remove the evaporator cover(freezer back wall) de ice the area then use a flexible tube or wire and hot water to clear and de ice the drain tube. When the drain tube clogs or freezes, the defrost water overflows the drain trough and drips down into the refrigerator compartment. once you've got it cleared, check and make sure the doors close and seal properly, and the interior light goes out when the doors are closed.

Chris T for Model Number GS5SHAXSL00 Whirlpool

My icemaker stopped making ice and doesn't appear to be cycling at all. I make sure the water supply wasn't frozen. I purchased the control assembly and installed it, but nothing at all is happening. Nothing seems to cycle and there is no water coming through. What would be the next step? I don't know how to test continuity of the water valve, but wouldn't the ice maker cycle even if the water isn't flowing? I'm thinking the next step would be the thermostat, but don't want to spend another $70 if that's not the problem. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Chris, If you have already replaced the emitter board that is on the side wall of the freezer then the next thing you will want to check is the icemaker itself. You will want to pull the icemaker out of the unit and remove the front cover and the motor module. Look on the back of the module for a burn mark on the contacts paying particularly close attention to the one on the right lower side as you look at if from the back. If these contacts are burnt then you will want to replace the icemaker. If there are no burnt contacts and the pins in the center of the motor module large wheel are not broken then check the fill tube at the top of the freezer to make sure that there is no ice in it. If there is then clean out all the ice and replace the water valve. If not then the icemaker would be the best option to replace.

Hello Mo, The water in the door is not cold until you throw away a couple of glasses of water because the water line is situated so it will not freeze by keeping it away from the freezer temperatures. Some models actually have a heater for the water line to prevent freezing. The icemaker sounds like it has an internal issue and we would recommend you replace it.

Carolyn, Based on what you have provided, it sounds like the issue will be that one of the plastic pieces on the flapper has broken. If this is the case then the flapper/mullion would need to be replaced as individual pieces are not available. The part number is WP12722803W. Now if the part that is broken is part of the door where the mullion goes then the door panel would have to be replaced.

Bhal, You will want to check the unit and make sure that the lever retainer is properly in place. The part number is WP2194719. Make sure that the lever is not coming in front of the retainer and causing the issue.
