The Water-Level Pressure Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is responsible for detecting the water level inside the washer and communicating this information to the control board to regulate the filling and draining processes. This switch ensures that the washer has the correct amount of water for each cycle, contributing to efficient and effective washing.

You should replace the water-level pressure switch if it malfunctions or fails. Causes of a bad switch can include electrical issues, blockage in the pressure hose, or wear and tear over time.

Symptoms of a bad pressure switch include:

  • Incorrect water levels during cycles
  • The washer not filling or overfilling
  • The washer not advancing to the next cycle
  • Error codes related to water level issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water-Level Pressure Switch (Part Number: OEM18064668)

Donna, There are a few things you will want to check. First, make sure that the unit is draining. If it is not then check the drain filter to make sure that it is not clogged up. If it is clear then check to ensure that the drain pump is working. If the drain is working then check the pressure hose to make sure that it is not clogged. Check the J17 connector to make sure that the connection is good. Make sure the drain hose is not blocked or kinked. and if this is good then replace pressure switch WPW10448876.

Tony, if any water temp other than hot is used for the other cycles, but hot is used for heavy wash, the failure would be in the water valve W10599356.

Water continues to drip into my washing machine when not in use. If I am not doing laundry for a few days, eventually that tiny drip fills enough water in the tub to make it overflow on to the floor. I've follow your videos to open up the machine and clean out all the parts i could. Now i suspect its a problem with the inlet valves or water pressure sensor. Before i spend money on those parts to conduct more trial-and-error do you have any suggestions? I can send pictures or videos if helpful. Thanks in advance.

Julie, Unplug the washer from the power outlet. If the water still drips in, with the power disconnected, the issue is the water inlet valve. W10599356

I have a frontload whirlpool washer that started giving me a f01 e03 error code. I blew through the hose from the water level switch and it fixed th problem for about a month and then it started again. I replaced the water level switch #wpw10448876 and that fixed it for almost a year. the weird thing is I have had the error code go off in the middle of the night when no one was using the machine.I cleaned out the air chamber tube and it has again worked for a few loads.. could there be another issue since it goes off in the middleof the night?

1 Answer

Jim, This could be an issue with excess suds. You can use a washer cleaner to remove any build-up and cut back on the amount of detergent used. It could also be a board issue giving a false code.

Brian, this can be caused by excessive suds, a pinched or partially blocked pressure hose, excessive water, or if a pressure sensor has failed. It would be recommended that the washer is checked for suds by using an empty wash with hot water, as well as inspecting the pressure hose for any partial clogs or kinks. If these things check good and the water level does not reach excess, the pressure sensor WPW10448876 would be a likely cause of failure.

Hello Antoine, if the drain pump is draining the tub of water and the code is still there then check the airline hose from the tub to the pressure switch and check if it restricted or has a crack or hole in it, if ok then replace the pressure switch WPW10448876, the airline hose is W11044559.

My Whirlpool Duet front load washer threw a E1/F9 code, so I cleaned out the filter basket in the pump and ran a drain/spin cycle. The washer then threw a SUD code. I unplugged it, pulled the filter out of the pump and drained the water out of the basket. I got the door to open and took out my clothes. Then I ran a quick wash cycle with an empty basket and no soap. During that cycle, I got a E1/F9 code again. The pump sounds like it is humming, but it is not draining anything. What is the next step? New pump or checking the hoses or is there something else that could be causing this problem? Thanks!

1 Answer

Carrie, it would be recommended that the drain hose is inspected for any clogs. If there are no clogs, the next step would be to plug the unit in, place it into a spin and drain cycle. If there is 120VAC when testing the main control connection J17 pin 4 to ground, then the drain pump WPW10605427 has failed and would need to be replaced.

Eric, This issue would be caused by a water level system error. Check connections from tub to air trap, air trap to pressure hose, and pressure hose to water level sensor. Make sure the pressure hose is not kinked , pinched, plugged or air leaking.

Christie for Model Number WFW79HEBW0

Have been receiving Sud and follow-on F9/E1 codes all summer (not with every load, but it's was becoming more frequent). Took washer apart to check drain pump filter and found two coins and some residue. Pump looked fine. Took the time to clean out the drain boot between tub and pump as well as internal and external drain hoses. This helped for about 2 weeks and now I am getting the error codes again. Washer is not draining. What do I try next? New pump - even though the existing sounds like it's working.... ? New water level sensor? Would the vent hose have anything to do with this? Need advice please. Thank you.

1 Answer

Christie, based on the information provided, it is likely that there is a suds residue inside of the tub that may be activating when a cycle is started. The suds can usually be seen by starting an empty cycle and observing the suds start forming within a few minutes. The cleaner Affresh W10549845 can be used to clean the suds residue. When suds occur, as they do not drain out with the water, when they break down they will leave standing water.
