By processing inputs from sensors and user settings, the control board ensures that the refrigerator operates efficiently and maintains the desired temperature.

Causes of a bad control board can include power surges, electrical component failures, or damage from moisture or debris. A malfunctioning control board can lead to various operational issues and inconsistent performance.

Symptoms of a bad electronic control board include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The freezer or refrigerator compartments being too warm or too cold
  • The refrigerator not running at all
  • Erratic or unresponsive control panel
  • Unusual noises or failure to start the defrost cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Lizzy, The WPW10310240 / WPW10310240 High Voltage Control Board, is a very good, and likely probability. The interior lights are a direct link to the power cord, so we know you have voltage to the refrigerator. If you have a multimeter you can check for 120 VAC into the main control board on the J1 connector, across the pin 4 red wire and pin 8 white wire. Then, check for 12 VAC on connector J6 pin 2 red/black across the pin 1 black/green wire, for power out to the low voltage/dispenser control board. That would verify the main control board is or isn't the issue.

Peter, this would indicate that the programming has been altered and would need to be reset. To do this, the program code would need to be found on the model/serial tag of the unit, then the programming mode would need to be entered. To enter the programming mode, 1. Press and hold the Door Alarm Keypad. 2. Press and hold Freezer Temperature DOWN /- Keypad within 3 seconds. 3. Release the Door Alarm Keypad and wait 3 seconds. 4. The control will display PE to indicate the programming mode. 5. Entry is confirmed by pressing the Freezer Temperature DOWN /- Keypad once more. 6. The control will display the current Program CODE. This value should be validated with theProgram CODE printed on the unit serial plate. 7. Press the Refrigerator Temperature UP /+ Keypad or Refrigerator Temperature DOWN /- Keypad to change the digit value with each key press. 8. The decimal point indicates the selected digit. Press the Freezer Temperature UP /+ Keypad to select the next digit. 9. Once the desired Program CODE is entered, press and hold the Freezer Temperature DOWN /- Keypad until the Program CODE begins flashing indicating it has been saved.

The food at the bottom of my fridge keeps freezing as it runs constantly. In the process of troubleshooting, I replaced both the fridge and freezer thermistors (AP4009169) which did not fix the issue. If I turn up the temperature on the control panel to the highest setting the unit would eventually shut off. I found that if I turned my ice maker off the problem is resolved and the fridge and freezer maintain the correct temperatures set on the control board (37/0 degrees). I then replaced the ice maker cycling thermostat (WP627985) and motor kit (8201515). Which has not resolved the issue. Could it be the High Voltage board or something else?

1 Answer

Johnathan, If your ice maker is not hooked up to water then you would have to leave the ice maker in the off position. If you are hooked up to water and making ice regularly then whirlpool suggests ordering this kit W10295078

Nikki, AppliancePartsPros.com does not distribute the individual parts to repair a PCB(printed circuit board), Nor do most parts distributors. We would recommend you access the dispenser control board and check for 12 volts across the J1 connector pin 1(black/green wire and pin 3 red/black wires. If you have the voltage, the dispenser control assembly will need to be replaced W10882877. If the voltage is not present, then you will need the WPW10312695 Electronic Control Board on the back of the refrigerator.

Front control panel was flashing 888888 and all the buttons were blinking and not responding. Saw that it could be the HV control panel the existing panel is a W10310240A. So i purchased the same board installed it and now it reads PE0 000. I have the instruction on how to program the new board but it not working and none of the display buttons are responding to anything i do. I hold the door alarm and freezer temp down button down for 3 seconds then release the door alarm button and continuing to hold the freezer temp down button, releasing it and i get no change in the display still PE0 000. Could it be something else that is defective?

1 Answer

Hello Tom, the rear main hv board is responding correctly, once installed it will show pe 0000 and needs to be coded with the number on the model/serial plate, however the dispenser keypad has to be working correctly to be able to input the code, if none of the keypads are responding you would need keypad/low voltage board assembly W10740217

Wade for Model Number MFI2569VEQ

Came back from vacation and found the refrigerator dead and everything melted. This morning the display flashed occasionally. As the day went on, it flashed more often and occasionally stayed on a couple of seconds. When it stayed on longer, the compressor would go for a couple of seconds. Then longer, and now it is has been running normally for 1.5 days. Someone suggested it was the control board. I sure hate to spend $400 when that might not be the problem. Why would it gradually get better? Is it likely to continue running without repair?

1 Answer

Hello Wade, This is most likely going to be caused by a failing start relay on the compressor or a failing relay on the main board. I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number and the serial number from your units' I.D. tag since these are necessary on this design to pull the correct part numbers that can be guaranteed to work on the unit in your home.

Chuck, You will want to test at the J4 connector pin 1 to pin 2 for 12 vdc and if there is not power then the main control board would be faulty.
