The Electronic Control Board is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component acts as the brain of the refrigerator, managing and regulating various functions such as temperature control, defrost cycles, and the operation of fans and compressors. By processing inputs from sensors and user settings, the control board ensures that the refrigerator operates efficiently and maintains the desired temperature.

Causes of a bad control board can include power surges, electrical component failures, or damage from moisture or debris. A malfunctioning control board can lead to various operational issues and inconsistent performance.

Symptoms of a bad electronic control board include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The freezer or refrigerator compartments being too warm or too cold
  • The refrigerator not running at all
  • Erratic or unresponsive control panel
  • Unusual noises or failure to start the defrost cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18057696)

David Lantz for Model Number MFI2269VEA1

Late at night when the house is quiet, I've noticed a fan like sound coming from my refrigerator. I got my ear close to the back where I could hear it come on for a few seconds, then a slight ping sound and it shut off. A few seconds later it started up again and will do it several times and I give up on listening. The last time I did notice that the front control panel blinked on and off once during that process. Through many internet searches it seems to point to the main control board but I don't know how accurate that is. The board looks very easy for me to replace but hate to spend several hundred dollars to find out it was the wrong part. Any thoughts for me? Thanks, David Lantz

David, Try pulling the refrigerator out and take the cover off for the control board and listen to see if it is the control board making the noise. This will typically be a relay that is activating. Unless there is a problem with the refrigerator not cooling I would not change the control board.

Mike, it would be recommended that the interface is checked to ensure the control lockout is not activated. If it is, the button can be pressed and held for 3 seconds to deactivate it. If it is not, and there is not a damaged wire at the door hinge, the most likely cause of failure would be the main control WPW10310240.

I need to know how to cross reference a control board for an older Maytag refrigerator model # MFI2266AEU10. The serial number on the control board in the back is W10164094. I haven't been able to find it on the net or in any stores. The fridge is 16 years old. Wondering if they no longer make this board. The lights on the front display light up like a Christmas tree and makes a loud popping noise that sounds like it's shorting out. I removed the front display and the sound went away. Google says it's most likely a faulty control board. Thanks.

Kelly, For this issue, the dispenser control board will not be the cause for this. This will be the fault of the main control board which will be part number WPW10310240.

Hello Dean, The new board has to have the program code entered as per the tech sheet. The programming code is on the units ID tag inside the fresh food compartment. This is the only place it can be found. Your tech sheet states the following: Programming Mode: NOTE: The Program Code is located on the Serial Plate on this unit after the word Code. 1. Press and hold the Door Alarm Keypad. 2. Press and hold Freezer Temperature DOWN /- Keypad within 3 seconds. 3. Release the Door Alarm Keypad and wait 3 seconds. 4. The control will display PE to indicate the programming mode. 5. Entry is confirmed by pressing the Freezer Temperature DOWN /- Keypad once more. 6. The control will display the current Program CODE. This value should be validated with the program CODE printed on the unit serial plate. NOTE: If the Program CODE is correct, the Programming Mode is exited by pressing Door Alarm Keypad for 3 seconds. 7. Press the Refrigerator Temperature UP /+ Keypad or Refrigerator Temperature DOWN /- Keypad to change the digit value with each keypress. 8. The decimal point indicates the selected digit. Press the Freezer Temperature UP /+ Keypad to select the next digit. 9. Once the desired Program CODE is entered, press and hold the Freezer Temperature DOWN /- Keypad until the Program CODE begins flashing indicating it has been saved. NOTE: If you attempt to enter an invalid Program CODE the control will not save the new code, but will beep. (The unit will NOT run with a Program CODE of 0000). Once the Program CODE has been saved the Programming Mode is exited by pressing any key. If the new code is incorrect this process should be repeated. The Programming mode can be exited at any time by pressing the Door Alarm key for 3 seconds or will exit if unattended for four minutes.

Marcia, Test to see if there is 120 Vac to the overload and relay on the side of the compressor and if there is not then the HV control board will be the issue. If there is then the issue will most likely be the start device that is faulty.

Keith, Based on the instructions I would repeat the programming process from the beginning. "If the new code is incorrect this process should be repeated."

Jesse, The fact that all the lights will light up when you push something on the dispenser means that the dispenser control board is getting power to it which would indicate a faulty dispenser control board.

Hello John, there is no one to send the core back to. Some manufacturers included a core return label in the new part box if the replaced part was to be returned by the service company only and usually the part replacement was done under the appliance's warranty.
