Jim for Model Number Frigidaire CRGR7900AS1

Dryer doesn't heat up - article I received from customer service rep says it could be one of: 1. Thermal fuse 2. Cycling thermostat 3. Igniter 4. Flame sensor 5. Gas valve coils I just put in new coils so unless they're faulty it shouldn't be those. I see the flame ignite so i'm assuming that the flame sensor and the igniter are ok - is that a fair assumption? So that leaves the thermal fuse or the cycling thermostat. Can anybody tell me what I might be missing here?

1 Answer

Jim, The first thing that you will want to check is the dryer venting from the blower wheel to the outside of the home. If the venting is clogged the burner will only stay lit for a short period of time as it will cause the cycling thermostat to cycle prematurely. The thermal fuse would not be the issue. If the thermal fuse were bad the unit would not fire at all. You can check the flame sensor to ensure that it is good by doing a continuity test. If the flame sensor is closed when at room temperature then it is ok and if it is showing open then it would need to be replaced.

Twice (about three weeks apart) my refer stops running. At that time things are melting/thawing and all indicator lights on the control display are out. Pushing them or the on/off button doesn't help. Everything seems dead EXCEPT the interior lights work normally. I unplug for about 15 minutes. Plug it in and it operates normally. The first time this exact thing happened I cleaned the dirty coils and it resumed operating at that time. Is it normal that all the indicator lights are off during the defrost cycle? I'm considering buying a new control circuit board and compressor starting relay but am not sure if the problem is caused by either of these parts. Any suggestions?? The coils were very clean when the above happened the second time (about three hours ago). It is running fine as I write this. Thanks, Jon R.

Mel, You will want to unplug the unit and take the start relay off. Shake the start relay and see if it rattles and if so then the relay is bad and would need to be replaced.

LT, It sounds like the whining noise may be caused by the heater on the icemaker not heating up and causing the motor to grind. You would want to replace the icemaker for this issue.

I have a whirlpool gold side by side. The starter burned out on the side of the compressor (EGY90HLP). The model number of the starter is 4SP1001 2212194. The kind that is a small white box on a brown box. It has three spade terminals, two on top (one for a white lead that also goes to capacitor, the other the blue lead to the capacitor) and one on the bottom for the hot lead. The compressor has three pins, two on top and one on the bottom that plug into the starter, or rather plugged into it. The back of the starter is melted and one of the top pins on the compressor is bent down from the heat and has a glob of something (solder) on it. Three questions: Can I straighten the pin without breaking it?...Can I apply heat to the pin to melt the glob off without damaging it?....and how the heck do you rewire one of these new version starters (haven't figured out which one yet) with all the parts to work with this setup?

1 Answer

Amos, With having the glob on the terminal, this is an indication that the start relay welded the contact to the terminal and this would require a new compressor W10309994.

Hello Andrew. You will have to use new spades on the wires and rewire the overload and relay to use this design. If your model used the old style white box, you need to use it and not the new design in the kit. If it does not use it, you will have to rewire the unit to work with the new design.

Hello Tom. Yes, you should be fine with the 31. Try matching the color dot on the starter.
