This is the front-facing control panel assembly that houses the touchpad buttons used to select wash cycles and options on the dishwasher door. It mounts to the outer door and connects to the electronic control board behind it. Replace this panel if buttons are unresponsive, cracked, or if the printed labels have worn off, making it difficult to operate the dishwasher.

For Whirlpool Dishwasher Control Panel, Black (Part Number: OEM18037005)

John O for Model Number Kenmore Dishwasher KUDS011JWH1

I replaced the control - touch panel on my DW and it now works as expected - but the small square display on the panel doesn't show the status of the wash cycle. I ran the ribbon cable underneath the control board and inserted the larger connector on the ribbon cable onto the proper socket at the end of the control board. The panel lights work correctly, and the wash cycle works fine now. On the ribbon cable I see another plug connector, but I can't find where to plug this in. Also, I don't see what LCD will display the status.

John,

With everything working except the digital display then this would be either a loose connection or the display would most likely be faulty.

DW would not close, determined the handle was broken. I removed the broken handle but the dishwasher still worked. It still was a bit wonky so I ordered a new strike. While waiting for the strike, I noticed that the plastic "tubes" that hold the screws for the control panel were all but missing, cracked, etc. which may have explained why the door would not close properly. For some reason i disconnected the ribbon on the back of the control panel and now my dishwasher doesn't work. Is there a trick to reinserting that ribbon thing? I was able to use alternate screws which were longer and the control panel is now completely snug. I am hoping it is not the control board. Could I have improperly reinserted the ribbon thing on the back of the control panel onto the control board. I did order a new control panel but haven't tried it yet.

Hello Pamela,
The ribbon cable should firmly slip into the connection point and the small clip on the side should lock it in position. You should verify 120Vac is passing through the door switch to the control before determining a control or panel issue. Since the panel has broken screw receivers, it should be replaced and the original screws put in to ensure proper closure of the door. Also, the unit must be securely mounted to the countertop so it cannot move around in the installation. All four feet have to contact the floor and support the unit so the door strike will be correct for the door switches to both engage electrically.

Allan, First you need to remove power to the dishwasher. " Removing the Console Panel The control panel on the KitchenAid KUD01 Dishwasher comes in two versions: a) Split Controls: Top and Front Display and b) Front Display. Both control panels are removed in the same manner. 1. Remove the six (6) screws securing the control panel to the inner door panel / door frame. 2. The control panel will now drop down and be free of the door assembly. The wiring harness will remain connected to the console components. Removing the control board ALL MODELS 1. Disconnect the ribbon connector and the wiring harness connectors from the electronic control board. 2. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to depress the holding tabs at the left end of the control board assembly while pulling up."

I believe the control panel is going, not sure. The control lock panel indicator will come on after each use and I have to press the energy saving dry button to reset. Now that trick no longer works and I have to unplug and replug the unit to get the panel free, and that trick seems to be hit or miss now. The unit is 12 years old still in good shape stainless inside and out and seems to be in good condition except for this. If I ordered the panel how difficult the fix? I've fixed minor electrical stuff before but never a dishwasher.... Thanks in advance

John,

Based on the information it sounds as though the control panel is at fault and would need to be replaced. To replaced you will take the screws out of the inner door panel and remove the control board. You will want to also want to check the ribbon harness connection.

Hello Andy. Test the fuse 8193762 and see if it is bad on the unit. If so, it will cause the problem you are having. Hope this helps.

Question regarding the ribbon cable from the front button panel to the control board. Do you have the complete pin out? Our dishwasher would not start so I went through the checklist to narrow it down to the button panel. I ended up soldering in a pair of wires to the ribbon cable pins 4 and 12 and ran them out to a button - talk about ghetto, but it got us washing dishes again! However, I may have broken the ribbon cable as the hi-temp scrub option does not light up anymore. Thanks for hosting this great forum. It has saved me hundreds of dollars over the past couple of years and I always order my parts from here. Now, need to debate ordering a new panel versus a new dishwasher - this one is almost 10 years old... Karl

Karl, The pin location and matrix are a bit difficult to decypher, but your technical date sheet does have the breakdown and test points. Your tech sheet is usually attached to the backside of the lower kickplate or frame of the dishwasher. But you've already diagnosed the issue, you have a problem in the keypad and will need WP8270232 control panel/keypad assembly. Thanks and Good Luck

My dishwasher will go into the cancel mode on it's own. I stopped this from happening by hitting the control lock except when making selections. After a month of this working it will now flash the rinse button. It appears the cancel button is being hit w/o me hitting it. All the buttons still functions when the control lock isn't on & it will function normally until "canceled." When not in use it will automatically turn to "purge cycle." This is the same as if I hit the cancel button again. The control panel is black and on the inside there doesn't appear to be corrosion or part 8269187 the ribbon cable is in good repair.
