John for Model Number KUDM01TJWH0

KitchenAid. First it seemed to jump around to various cycles, as though it couldn't make up its mind what to do. I pulled the top panel off and there was evidence of a diode burned out and possibly an adjacent resistor. The board was burned and discolored in that area so I replaced it. All went well for a couple cycles, now nothing. When I press Normal/Start, it won't run and the Normal light just continues to blink. If I press Cancel/Drain, then both it and the Normal light will continously blink but nothing starts. Thoughts? Might it be the main panel that contains the push buttons with the ribbon attachment? I also did some continuity checks while apart using a Whirlpool schematic. Checking the drain motor between the blue-black wire and the gray wire, I get 17.5 ohms. Per the strip circuits diagram it should read 4.2-7.0 ohms. Could that have possibly blown the fuse mounted on the box the control panel board is located in? I haven't taken it apart again to test that fuse.

John, As for the issue with the normal light blinking continuously would be a stuck key on the keypad and would need to be replaced. Also if the resistance of the drain is getting 17.5 ohms then the drain pump would be faulty and need replaced.

Carol, You will want to check the heating circuit and make sure that you are purging the water line before running the dishwasher. The water temp coming into the unit can affect the operation and should be at least 120 degrees coming into the unit. If this checks ok then test the heating circuit to make sure that it is working as this can cause the unit to run for extensive periods of time trying to get the water temp to the proper temperature. If all this checks ok then the issue will be with the control board.

Joe, You will want to check the door latch switches on the unit and make sure that they have continuity when pushed in. If no continuity then they are bad and would need to be replaced. If the door latch checks ok then the issue would be in the control board.

Swtsgg for Model Number Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

Green light on front of dishwasher blinking 7 times and dishwasher shuts down. I ordered replacement heating element and control board but when I opened the door panel I noticed that some of the wiring looked burned and the insulation on the door had melted in those areas. The original control board part number is 8564546. The new part number that came with the heating element kit is 8564543. Two questions: Is the new part number correct? Will replacing the control panel eliminate the burning wire issue?

1 Answer

Hello Swtsgg, This is a heating circuit failure fault code. If the harness was melted into the black insulation material, as per the manufacturer, the harness and the inner door liner will have to be replaced. This may correct the heating circuit issue since the wiring can conduct through the insulation. The insulation has been changed to prevent this issue from recurring. I would have provided part numbers but could not without your units' model number from its' I.D. tag. I would not replace the control until the harness and door liner have been replaced.

Bob, With the drain working when you hit cance/drain but not during the cycle then the issue would be caused by a faulty control board which is part number WP8564543.

Cally M for Model Number KUDS03CTSS3

When I started my dishwasher the start/resume button turned on as usual then after a few seconds the start/resume button started flashing. The washer seems to fill up with a small amount of water and luckily when I press the cancel button it drains. We have tried to reset the panel twice. Normal heat dry normal heat dry. Then it acts like it wants to run because it stays in wash mode..... nothing happens but we can here a faint clicking sound coming from the panel after the reset.

Cally, The start/resume button flashing is an indication that the door latch is not making or the switch on the door latch is faulty. You will want to test the latch assembly to make sure that it is good and is latching properly. If this checks ok then the issue will be a control board problem.

Hello Al. Make sure the door switches are good. If so, you will need to replace the control panel on the unit.
