Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Control Board (Part Number: OEM18040020)

Hello Craig, It sounds like a water heating problem to me. Most of the time it will be the heating element WP717273. If this turns out to be the issue you will need to order two washers WP717273 for it to keep from creating a water leak. I tried to send you a service manual containing specific instructions on the troubleshooting of the unit and part replacement, but it seems as though the e-mail address you provided isn't valid. Let us know if you have another e-mail address where we can send it.

I'm back with the same problem: after replacing the control board, my dishwasher (GU3200XTPQ3) still doesn't work: all buttons (except "rinse") do now light up/work. When I press "Start" nothing happens... If I press "cancel", the display shows upper half on the second digit on and the pump start draining, even though there is no water inside.... If I will power off/on the dishwasher (and usually I have to wait about 30 min in between) it will work; I can load it and everything will work fine up until the wash finishes and I will open the door to unload it. Then, it will not work any more… I will do the trick with the power and, randomly, will work again… Any thoughts? Thank you kindly. PS: I've checked the control panel with an ohmmeter and all buttons work fine - including the display... Now, if I power the dishwasher off for some time and then I will power on again, it will work a full cycle; if I open the door and washed dishes out and load it again for a new cycle, it may or not work (randomly). I've checked the wires going on the door to beneath it and they seems not to be the problem ... This situation kills me... Is there any capacitor beneath the dishwasher ? Or anything else which can be trigger to work or not on moves/touch/jiggle ? I've checked all the connections - ass much as I could w/o taking the dishwasher fully out ) but nothing seems to make a difference... Is there any sensor which can do this ? Please help... Thank you.

Hello Teddy. Sometimes the panels can test good, but the connections are actually bad. If the board is new, and the problem is still there, then the control panel WP3385742 will need to be replaced on the unit. Hope this helps.

CPD, It's not likely the servicer sabotaged your dishwasher, It's just a coincidence, I would think. You most likely have an issue with the keypad assembly "PROBLEM: WON’T RUN AND LED ABOVE KEY(S) IS FLASHING RAPIDLY > Stuck key(s) or shorted circuit(s) in keypad.> Shorted circuits or connections on the control that read the keys." I would think it's just a coincidence, since the keypad is suseptible to failure due to usage, You should start by orderring the console / keypad assembly WP3385744 Thanks

Lalit, The most likely issue is an issue with the keypad assembly. One (or more) of the key pads is "shorted" and causing the control board to "lock up". You'll need to order and install the control panel/keypad assembly. The fact that the dishwasher will operate one cycle after the reset procedure, is a good indication that evrything else is OK. Good Luck and Thanks

Hi there, My dishwasher stopped working; any other button, except rinse, does not light up if pressed. I've tested ALL buttons (the keypad) with a multimeter and they are fine. Pressing Start does nothing; pressing Cancel activates the pump and the display shows one verical bar (upper one - half bar- lower is off). Took off the electronic control board and check it visually - nothing bad with it (no burn or other things...). The big and small chip(s) get 5V and the module has power.... What should I do? Should I replace the control board? Thank you kindly, Teddy

Hello Teddy. Yes, if the buttons test good with a meter, and the board is non-responsive, you will need to replace the control board WP8564547. Hope this helps.

Teddy, A model number would be a big help, but in general you most likely have a defect in the key pad control panel assembly, or that's where you would want to start "PROBLEM: UNUSUAL LED OR DISPLAY READOUTS > Open ID diodes and/or LED circuit(s) in keypad. Open circuits or connections on the control that read IDs or drive LEDs. PROBLEM: ONE OR MORE KEYS WON’T RESPOND > Open key or LED circuit(s) on the keypad. Open circuits or connections on the control that read the keys or drive LEDs." Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Jeff. The control board determines the length of the cycles needed fo the unit. the control board is part # WP8564547. Are you also using Dishwasher magic part # TJ104 or Glisten part # W10549845 monthly in order to keep the bottom optical warter sensor clean so it will allow thw advance or stalling of the unit to optimise cleanability ? Thank You.
