The Control Board is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. As the central processing unit, this board regulates all cycles and component functions including wash and rinse settings, heating controls and the digital display.

Symptoms of a failed control board include:

  • Inability to select or change wash/rinse options
  • Cycles failing to complete through all settings
  • Error codes displayed or unresponsive controls

Causes can be normal wear of electronic components over extended use. Exposure to fluctuating internal temperatures may also deteriorate electrical connections over time.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Control Board (Part Number: OEM18044859)

1 Answer

Michael, This issue does sound likely that it would be caused by a faulty main control board. The control board should be the only thing needed.

Lawrence, You pressed the wrong keys " To invoke the Diagnostics Cycle, perform the following key presses or actions in less than 6 seconds while in standby: Heated Dry ? Normal ? Heated Dry ? Normal . (To rapid advance one interval at a time, press the Start/Resume key). Invoking Service Diagnostics clears all status and last ran information from memory and restores defaults; It also forces the next cycle to be a sensor calibration cycle." If there is an issue with the control, certain lights will flash, at the end of the test mode. If there are no flashing LED lights at the end of the test mode, replace the control panel / key pad assembly.

Joseph, The ribbon harness connector should have the same amount of terminals as the board and would slide on only one way.

i Cant tell if I already posted this question. Please help!! on my dishwasher I have 2 control panels. The electronic control panel and the touchpad control panel. I replaced the 1st one, but not repaired. I'm wanting to find out how I can tell if the panel control is bad. I previously got a blinking start button, and now the drain cycle will not even work. I tried the reset with scrub/heat buttons nothing. I see my part W10111537 is discontinued. Do you know of another panel I can use? how can I test if my panel is bad. I noticed there is a lot if info out there but its very hard to tell if they are referring to the electronic control panel or the touch pad control panel. How can I tell if it isn't the thermofuse or the door latch?

1 Answer

Gina, We wish you had included an e mail address, we would've sent you some helpful information. If the problem was a thermal fuse or door latch assembly, there would be no power to the controls, and there would be no display lights at all. The control board WPW10084141 / W10084141 would be the least likely of the two components involved, and you should start control panel / console WPW10078133 / W10084183 but it is no longer available from the manufacturer. You can remove the lower kick plate panel and check to see if the tech data sheet is attached to the back side or it may be attached to the front frame and use it to conduct the diagnostics test and use the information for testing the key pad circuits. You disconnect the key pad ribbon from the control board, clean the end of the ribbon with rubbing alcohol or electrical contact cleaner, carefully clean the ribbon connector on the control board. give it a few minutes to evaporate then put it all back together and run the diagnostics test again.

Wayne C for Model Number KUDP02SRBL0

I sent a question earlier asking for advice about why my dishwasher has completely failed and smelled like it overheated. That was before I took the front panel off to have a look at the Thermal Fuse. I found that the circuit board was severely burned. It looks like it was actually on fire. The connector ends of some of the wiring harnesses that connected to the board were severely burned too. Does it make sense to replace the circuit bard, the wiring harness and the thermal fuse to repair this dishwasher? What else would I need to replace? What would cause such an electrical problem to begin with? Could there be a motor problem too that would lead to the electrical fire? I have had a several great experiences with Appliance Parts Pro for many of my appliance repair projects and appreciate your help and advice.

1 Answer

Wayne, This issue could have been caused by a loose connection and would just need to replace the control board, harness and thermal fuse.
