The Control Board is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. As the central processing unit, this board regulates all cycles and component functions including wash and rinse settings, heating controls and the digital display.

Symptoms of a failed control board include:

  • Inability to select or change wash/rinse options
  • Cycles failing to complete through all settings
  • Error codes displayed or unresponsive controls

Causes can be normal wear of electronic components over extended use. Exposure to fluctuating internal temperatures may also deteriorate electrical connections over time.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Control Board (Part Number: OEM18044859)

Tim, with the power supply turned off, the user console WP8572354 ribbon would need to be disconnected from the main control WPW10084141 and then the console put back together. From there, turn the power supply back on and close the door. Immediately following, the turbidity sensor WPW10705575 wire would need to be unplugged and plugged back in two times in less than 6 seconds. If water begins to fill into the dishwasher after 10 seconds, the user console is the cause of failure. If water does not start to fill, the failure is in the main control.

Dishwasher stops mid cycle, sometimes restarts, sometimes doesn't. Two horizontal dashes in the time remaining displays when stopped. If I try to restart the dishwasher, then Normal light blinks fast and Start/Resume blinks slowly. Removed panel and tested the ribbon cable with a DMM according to the tech sheet. Each button tested OK by showing infinite resistance prior to the button being pushed, and showing readable resistance when pushed. Disconnected power and unseated the ribbon cable. Connected power then closed door after 15 seconds. Expected the Drain cycle to initiate but it did not after 2 minutes. My suspicion is the control board and I just ordered one. Hoping that I don't have to ship it back to you. Am I on the right path?

Cycle selection LEDs do not light up when pressed and washer won't start. I turned off power >5mins no luck. I did manual reset by alternately pressing Hi Temp Scrub and Heat Dry 5 times. It ran thru diagnostics. When done no LEDs were lit. I pressed Cancel as I read and when that was done still unable to select Normal (or any) wash cycle. Does this sound like a bad control board or something else? If I purchase the part(s) and they don't solve the problem can I return them for a full refund? Thanks -- Mike

1 Answer

Hello Mike, the fact the control board ran through the diagnostic cycle shows that the control board is ok and that part of the keypad is working, what this sounds like is a failing keypad/touch membrane WP8572205. As far as the return part policy, you can contact our Customer Service at 1-877-477-7278, for that information.

Four of the five cycle type blue LEDs do not illuminate when the button is pressed. Specifically, Heavy Duty, Normal, Light/China and Quick Cleanup do not illuminate. The LED for Rinse Only does come on. I know that the dishwasher runs fine in Normal mode even though the mode LED is not lit. I have not checked the other modes to see if they run correctly. I believe I changed the LED control board a year or so ago and I am not certain if I checked for the cycle mode LEDs? Is there a diagnostic that tells me if there is an actual problem with the dishwasher cycles or just the mode LEDs? Thanks in advance, Craig

1 Answer

Craig, the diagnostic mode can be entered by pressing the following sequence: heated dry, normal, heated dry, normal. As soon as this is completed, the LED lights should all illuminate. Closing the door will allow the diagnostic cycle to begin. If there are no errors indicated at the end, then the ribbon cable W10850507 will need to be inspected for any signs of a break (after disconnecting power from the dishwasher). If the ribbon cable checks good, then the control panel would be the likely issue.

Brian, If the control panel is needed then the control board would not correct the problem. If the control board is needed then this would be the correct part.

Whirlpool Quiet Partner II Model#: DU1100XTPSA Problem: dishwasher drains prematurely. During 'normal wash' or 'rinse only', unit will start normally (water fills, then begins wash cycle), but after several minutes, it drains pumping water to the sink while still throwing water around in the tub until it is dry. But the wash pump is still humming as if 'thinks' the tub is still full of water. I can stop the cycle at that point, fill it with water, and upon closing the door, it runs normally for a while, then the early draining occurs again. Float switch seems to operate normally. Lifts smoothly and I can hear the switch click. I tried the 'hard reset' recommended by WP by shutting off breaker for 60 sec - no effect. Unfortunately, I replaced the control panel (WPW10084141), but still drains early. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Dave

1 Answer

Dave, Disconnect power from the drain motor and start another load it sounds like you have a siphon effect going on. Make sure you have an air gap in the drain before it connects to the sink. Electrically the control you replaced would have solved the issue if the drain and motor were running at the same time.

None of the lights are on for my dishwasher. I opened up the control access of the door and found a burnt wire harness. I assume the fuse blew as well. I know I need to get a new fuse, wire harness, and control panel. The dishwasher does still have water standing from the last load of dishes. Before I buy any parts and replace them, I want to make sure I fix any potential problems that caused the overheating. Please tell me what things to look for.

1 Answer

Jonathan, A blown fuse and burnt harness can just be caused by a loose connection but also make sure that there is nothing causing the motor to bind which could cause the fuse to blow as well.
