This replacement part is a control board for an ice maker. Control boards serve as the main computer that controls the functions of the ice machine. Before installing this part, unplug the ice maker and pull it away from the wall. Then unthread screws of the access cover to the control panel. Use a putty knife to pry the cover off and proceed to remove the screws securing the top panel. Use a nut driver to remove the rear panel. Lift the top panel up and have someone hold it upright. Remove the screws that hold the control housing on the top panel. Once control housing has been released, remove the screws securing the grounding wire to set the panel aside. Then with a Phillips head screwdriver, unthread the screws that hold the control board. Depress the tab to release the board. Note the orientation of the wire connectors and disconnect them from the board. Re-secure the wire connectors to their correct terminals and pop the new control board back in place. Reinstall the panels that were removed. This genuine replacement part is a control board compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand ice machines.

Hello Rich, This is usually caused by mineral deposits sticking to the evaporator plate. Try cleaning the unit as per the owners' manual with a good quality, nickel safe, ice machine cleaner. Many of these did not have the grid ice guides (AP3179235) from the factory. These fit on each side of the ice grid and will prevent the ice from hanging up and causing a stoppage. The manufacturer does recommend them to be installed if not in place already. They are sold individually so two are necessary.

Pat, You will want to check to make sure that the condenser fan motor is running and check to make sure that the compressor is running. If the condenser fan motor is not running it will cause the unit to be warmer than normal and not allow ice to make.

Why are my ice cubes small and not frozen hard? The ice maker stopped making ice. Ran two cleaning cycles, one with vinegar and water and the second with dishwasher detergent and water. After that water started circulating through the system and back into the tank. It then started making ice cubes that were small and not frozen hard. I ordered the correct cleaner and will repeat the cleaning cycle. What else could cause this problem? Can you verify the sequence of events that take place to make ice? l. The water valve comes on and fills the tank. 2. The pump comes on and fills the freezing tray. 3. The compressor comes on and freezes the water. 4. The heating coils come on and make the ice cubes which then fall into the ben. I have cleaned the coils at the bottom of the unit. I am concerned about the fan. Does it run all the time or just when the compressor is running? Does it need to be cleaned? The ice maker is about five years old and in a clean environment. I am helping my sister with this problem. I didn't know anything about ice makers when I started. She couldn't find he owners manual. The unit has never been cleaned with Nickel Safe Ice Maker Cleaner. Thank you so very much for your reply. Charles.

Charles, You will want to check to make sure that the condenser fan is operating when the compressor is operating. If not then you will want to check to make sure that the fan is getting power. If it is then the fan would need to be replaced. Check the cutter grid to make sure that the grid is not broken. Allow the unit to run 24 hours to see if the ice improves. If not check these things.

Tim, The control board would be the first thing that you would want to check. Make sure that there is 120 vac coming to the control board. If there is then the control board is defective and would need to be replaced. You may have other components that also failed but will have to work your way through them once new control is in place.
