Causes for issues with the oven bake element often include electrical failures that prevent the element from heating, physical damage from spills or impact, or natural wear and tear from regular use.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning Oven Bake Element include:

  • The oven not heating up to the set temperature
  • Uneven cooking or baking results
  • Visible damage or breakage in the element
  • No heat production, despite the oven being turned on

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Joseph, You will want to check to see if you are getting power at the control with the unit set to bake check from L1 to bake and if there is 240 vac then the control board would be the cause of failure.

Senedra, You will want to check the clock assembly to make sure that you are getting power between L1 and bake with unit turned to bake. If not then you will need to replace the clock assembly. If you do have the 240 vac then you will want to check at the element to make sure that you are getting 240 vac and if not then trace wires back to terminal block and look for damaged wiring.

Steve for Model Number MER5765QAB

I have a Maytag Model MER5765QAB. The bottom unit was making popping noises and flashing after a very long time heating up (it took an hour to get to 400 degrees). I turned the oven off. The top of stove works fine. I removed the cover and saw the left side of the element charred. In fact, the charred area broke off really easy (oven was cool by then). What's the best method to repair? Do I have to unplug the unit, or is turning off the circuit breaker OK?

Hello Steve, Sounds like the bake element has burned out. The part number is WPW10276482. Be sure not to try to replace it with the power on to the unit as 120Vac rides on the element at all times. I would ohm it out first and make sure this is the problem as there is normally a thermal cut-out in series with the element. The element will show somewhere between 30 and 80 ohms of resistance. This link will show you how to use a test meter: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html.'>http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html. Bob, The Bake element is located under the oven bottom panel. Heres some help, after you turn the power off to the range, and remove the oven door and racks " Bake Element 1. Turn off power to unit. 2. Remove screws securing oven bottom cover. 3. Raise the back of the bake element cover and slide cover back to release the front edge of cover and lift out of oven cavity. 4. Remove screws securing bake element to rear of oven wall. 3. Pull element forward to allow disconnection of terminals on each element leg. 4. Reverse procedure to reinstall bake element." Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Brian All elements when off has standing power on them so disconnect the power. Then remove the door and storage drawer. Then you remove the racks. Remove the element mount bolts. Then pull out the unit. Then remove the back cover. Remove the element wire connectors. Then go to the front and pull out the old element. Then slide in the new one. Bolt it ion place. Go to the back and re-pack the insulation back around the element terminal studs as they pass to the back of the unit. This will allow the heat to stay inside the cavity and not burn out wires or conectors in the near future. This failure is a common one for elements. Reassemble in reverse. Part # WPW10276482. Thank You.
