The Water Filter is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is designed to filter and purify the water for your refrigerator, ensuring clean and fresh drinking water and ice.

A bad refrigerator water filter can be caused by regular use and the buildup of contaminants over time. It may also become less effective if not replaced according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule.

Symptoms of a bad refrigerator water filter include:

  • A decrease in water flow or water pressure.
  • An unpleasant taste or odor in the water.
  • The presence of particles or sediment in the water.
  • Cloudy or discolored ice cubes.

If you notice any of these signs or if it has been more than six months since your last filter replacement, it's time to replace the refrigerator water filter with this genuine OEM part. This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Sharon, To replace the filter head, you will first need to pull out the unit and turn off the water supply. Disconnect the tubing that goes from the filter to the water valve and water supply lines. You will then remove the plate over the filter lines where they enter the cabinet. Go to the front of the unit and lower the cover of the filter and where it is hinged just pull to one side to release the cover and slide the opposite direction to remove the cover. Once this is done, the filter head is held in by clips that you would just pull the head out of the clips and pull the tubing and all out of the refrigerator and install the new one. Assemble in reverse.

Brian G for Model Number KFCS22EVMS0

We replaced our original water filter about a year ago. About one week after replacing it when we tried to use the water dispenser, a loud knocking would occur and very little water came out. We purchased another filter believing the first was defective and it happened again. When we remove the filter and put the plug cap on the knocking does nor occur. The filter we purchased is part # UKF8001. Is the knocking caused by the filter or is the inlet valve possibly bad?

1 Answer

Brain, In most cases when the filter gets turned in and the unit is making the knocking noise, it is because the filter did not get turned in fully and is not hitting the pins that allow the water to flow properly. When you get the filter turned in and it seems to stop then try to turn a little more and if it turns more then try the water and see if the knocking noise is still present. If not then the filter just was not in all the way and if it does continue to knock then the filter head would be the issue.
