The Ice Maker is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It automates the ice production within the freezer, providing a steady and reliable supply of ice cubes.

Causes of a bad Ice Maker can include malfunctioning water valves, clogged filter systems, or issues with the thermostat that affect ice production. Additionally, mechanical failures in the ice ejector arms or the heating mechanism that releases the ice can prevent proper functioning.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Maker include:

  • No ice production or very slow ice production
  • Ice cubes that are smaller or larger than normal
  • Ice that tastes odd or smells bad
  • Loud noises during the ice-making process

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM18079050)

1 Answer

Rich, For this issue the arm should be in the up position and only moves down when the icemaker cycles. With the icemaker not cycling it would be recommended to check to see if the emitter board is working. Check to see if the light is flashing when the flapper is pushed. If it is then see how it is flashing and check that with the tech sheet.

Chris, If there is no power coming from the control board to the icemaker then this would be a faulty control board.

Not really a question. Just to let anyone else know that my ice maker stopped working. Only 1 year 9 months old. It was not dumping ice. It got water to the tray. I pulled it out inspected it and could not get the arm to come down, or the little motor to turn. Reinstalled it and it made one batch then started over filling the water and it started running out the dispenser onto the floor. Got this new ice maker part # AP6026347 installed it, took less than 10 mins to install. 24-26 hours later I had a full bin of ice. My only concern is it seems to have gone past the full capacity line on the ice bin. Hopefully its smart enough to know to stop until capacity drops. I did not want to use any ice until I new it was working as normal. Thanks. R

Rob, It would be recommended if the bin is filling too much to make sure that you have gotten the bail arm installed properly on the back of the icemaker head. if not then it will cause the unit to not think it is full.

Is there a diagnostic jump for this ice maker to cycle it like every other ice maker in the world? I have no function at the ice maker at all. No water, no motion, no ice. The solenoids check out fine but nothing is triggering the system. Should there be voltage from the black/red wires at all times? Because I have no voltage. Does that mean the main control board in the back of the refrigerator is bad? There is no documentation/schematics on this ice maker anywhere. The fridge is #106.51133213 and less then two years old.

Larry, You would want to look under the kickplate and under the front of the unit to locate the tech sheet which will have the information on putting the icemaker into a harvest mode. We would need the model number to send this information to you.

Robert, If there is no power to the icemaker then you will want to make sure that the on off switch is not bad. If this checks ok then the control board will be the issue.

Hello Robert. Blue and yellow is the on and off switch, white and red side by side are the icemaker motor, and the 2 white side by side are the sensor.

Bob T for Model Number Wrs571cidm01

Hi, my ice maker won't turn over and dump the cubes. The fill tube functions and pores water on top of the already frozen cubes, which causes water to drain through the dispenser and onto the floor. First thing i tried was checking water pressure. We have good, solid pressure. Then i replaced the ice maker/water dispenser valve just in case the original had failed. Still has the same symptom. I've got the freezer temp set at 3 degrees F and place a digital thermometer in the freezer to check it. I'm wondering if perhaps the ice tray motor is bad and if i should replace the assembly? Also, what is the function of the small rubber tube under the cube tray that comes out of the motor housing?

1 Answer

Bob, For this issue you would want to replace the icemaker on the unit as it will be the most likely cause for this issue.
