Ron, it would be recommended that the icebox fan W10846539 is tested using the diagnostic test 36 to see if it will run. If not, it will need to be tested for incoming voltage and it should have 14VDC when turned on through the diagnostics. If the voltage is present but the fan does not run, it would need to be replaced.

Fred, based on the errors occurring during the diagnostic test, it is very likely that the ice maker W11658802 has failed as the errors indicate that the ice maker motor loses position and the sensor does not show the section reaching proper temperatures. As the ice maker will occasionally make ice, it would be less likely that it is a temperature failure if the ice box fan does operate properly during diagnostic testing.

Brian for Model Number WRX986SIHZ00

My ice maker has decided to stop making ice. Test 56 reports no errors (E0). Test 57 can successfully complete a harvest. Test 59 reports no errors, either. Test 45 will successfully fill the tray with water. Test 15 shows the bin isn't full. Test 36 shows the fan is in working order. The unit dispenses water properly. It makes ice fine if I manually control the process, but it will neither harvest ice automatically nor refill if I don't run test 45. In addition to running the service tests, I've tried unplugging the fridge for ~60 seconds. What else can I test here?

1 Answer

Brian, it would be recommended that a thermometer is used to identify if the freezer section is reaching the set temperature. An ice maker will not properly harvest unless the temperature going to the ice maker is less than 10°F. If the temperature is good, then it would be likely that the sensor in the ice maker W11658802 is not reading properly and the ice maker would need to be replaced.

Joel, it would be recommended that the ice maker W11577195 is inspected to identify if there is water in the tray. If there is, then the air temperature is not low enough for the ice maker to make ice. The fan motor W10846539 in the ice maker section needs to operate to be able to circulate the cold air to get the ice maker section lower than 10°F. Another item that would need to be checked is the fill tube to identify if the fill tube is frozen if water does not reach the ice maker. A frozen fill tube would indicate a failure in the heater WPW10554299 and the water valve WPW10341329.

Hello Dennis, if test 56 showed E0, the ice maker passed its testing, Note: if the ref is unplugged even for a short time, any test 56 fault codes will be erased. Next you may want to check the temperature by the ice maker it has to be below 10 deg for the ice maker to start up.Also you can test the water fill with test 45.
