The Infinite Switch Kit (Dual) is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges and cooktops. This kit includes the dual infinite switch, which allows for the independent control of two heating elements on the same burner. It provides precise control over the temperature settings for cooking surfaces, ensuring optimal performance.

Causes of a bad infinite switch can include wear and tear from frequent use, electrical surges, or exposure to moisture and spills. These issues can affect the switch's ability to regulate the burner temperature effectively.

Symptoms of a bad infinite switch include:

  • One or both burners not heating up or heating inconsistently
  • Burners staying at a fixed heat level regardless of the setting
  • Difficulty in adjusting the burner temperature
  • The switch feeling loose, stuck, or unresponsive

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Edgewater Appliance, We have sent an instruction sheet for this dual infinite switch. The diagram has a dotted line around it and the letter or number on the outside is the new switch marking and the inside of the dotted line is the markings of the old switch. Follow instructions for the jumper wire and in the case, you are installing this on the cve3400 model the two red wires connected to the L2 spot on the right front switch needs to be separated and the one that is not a jumper from switch to switch will need to be connected to the number 2 on the new dual switch.

Zufan, black jumper goes from P1 to S1, this brings voltage to the surface indicator circuit. 2 goes to P1, N goes to P2, 3 goes to 4, 4 goes to 4a, 5 goes to S2. P1 and P2 are your incoming voltage to the switch, 4 and 4a take voltage to your element. S2 is the voltage going to the surface indicator light.

Jeff, it is very possible that the wires are switched around. If the wires are not correctly placed, it can cause a constant high heat when engaged.

Ordered a 12002125 switch to replace faulty Left Rear burner switch. The new 12002125 switch and the old switch have different terminals. Here is how I connected: * Attached the Black wire from the old switch (terminal 2) to the new switch terminal P1. Also attached jumper wire between P1 and S1. * Attached Light Red wire from old switch terminal 5 to S2 on the new switch. * Attached Shiny Blue wire from old switch terminal 4 to 4a on the new switch. * Attached Shiny Black wire from old switch terminal 3 to terminal 4 on the new switch. * On old switch two Red wires were crimped together and attached to terminal N. Separated the Red wires from each other and attached the one from power cable to P2 on the new switch. Attached the other newly split Red wire from the Left Front burner switch to terminal 2 on the new switch. Problem I am having is circuit breaker trips as soon as I try to turn on the Left Rear burner using the new switch. What do I have connected wrong?

1 Answer

Gerald, It sounds like you have everything attached properly and would suggest checking for damaged or pinched wiring. Also check the element to make sure that there are no damaged wires.

Mike for Model Number CCE3401

I am trying to replace a dual burner infinite switch [part #12002125] on a 20+ year old Jenn-Air Radiant Cooktop. Old Switch(terminal=wire color):2=Black, 3=Blue, 4=Purple, 5=Orange, N=Dual Red I have wired the new switch in 3 ways. In all 3 configurations I put the jumper between P1 and S1 First Way: causes burner to be constant on high P1=Black, 4=Blue, 4a=Purple, S2=Orange, P2=Dual Red Second Way: causes burner to be constant on high Split dual red: one from burner and one from LF L2 P1=Black, 4=Blue, 4a=Purple, S2=Orange, P2=Red from LF L2, 2=Red from burner Third Way: blows the circuit breaker No dual red wire split P1=Black, 4=Blue, 4a=Purple, S2=Orange, P2=Dual Red Please Help!

1 Answer

Mike, your second way is correct. Check the contacts on the limiter switch that is on the element. You will need to allow it to get hot before you can get an accurate reading. When it gets hot, pull one of the wires off of the 2a or 1a connections and check for continuity. This switch should open up when it gets hot, this is how it regulates the temperature of the element.

Hello Ruth, You will need to order 12002125 for the dual infinite switch for the dual surface element. The control panel WP74005747 contains the membrane switch which are the buttons you referred to as being inoperative.

12002125 INF SWITCH. DESPITE MUCH EFFORT BY STAFF,i HAVE YET TO PLACE ALL EXISTING WIRES ON THIS SWITCH. THE ISSUE IS ORANGE INDICATOR WIRE. WHICH IS IN SOME SET UPS PLACED ON 4A TAB. WHICH IS ALSO FOR YELLOW ELEMENT WIRE..I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE INDICATOR LAMP OPERATIONAL. THIS SWITCH SHOULD ADDRESS THIS. WOULD INDICATOR GO TO S1? OF CAN ONE PIGGYBACK YELLOW AND ORANGE ? DO NOT UNDERSTAND JUMPER FROM P1 TO S1. AS IT STANDS ALL TABS OCCUPIED BUT ALWAYS WITH ONE WIRE LEFT. EITHER ORANGE INDICATOR OR YELLOW ELEMENT. HELP APPRECIATED.

1 Answer

Phil, The On indicator light /orange wire should attach to the S2 terminal on the 12002125 infinite switch. The only Jumper wire on the switch comes with the kit and is attached to the P! terminal and the S1 terminal. Here's some help: black common wire(to all switches) attaches to the other P1 terminal, Tan wire attaches to terminal $, Yellow wire attaches to terminal 4A, S1 term orange, S2 terminal black jumper wire, Red common to all burners will attach to P2 terminal, Red wire to the element will attach to Terminal 2.
