The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Lid Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM15789930)

Maureen for Model Number Whirlpool WTW4950XW

When I start my washer, the lid locks and tries to start sensing, but stops right away and clicks a few times as if it unlocking and locking the lid then the lid lock light starts flashing and nothing happens after that. The lid stays locked, I cannot lift it but the lid light is flashing. I have to unplug or reset washer. Could it be the lid lock sensor even though the lid stays locked or could it be the water hose sensor? Thanks Maureen

Maureen, Did or do you not have any error/fail codes ? Check for a loose connection or loose wire terminal in the J15 connector of the wire harness, this is the lid switch / lock circuit to the control. There are other possibilities, and your best bet would be to use the tech data sheet, and conduct the diagnostics, automatic and manual test modes so you have a better idea of what the control is seeing or not seeing.

Edison, You will want to verify power to the control board and check all electrical connections before replacing any parts. You will want to check the lid switch to make sure that it is reading properly. It does sound like it may be a lid switch issue but you will want to check unit first. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Mike, The lid lock light flashing would indicate that the lid is not closed. You may want to make sure that the strike WPW10240513 on the lid is not broken. If it is broken even with the lid closed it would tell the control board that the lid is open.

Hello Tung. If the unit is locking, but the board is not seeing that it is locked, you will need to check the wiring harness for a bad connection or wire. If it is good, you will need to replace the control board W10392998 in the unit.

Carbella, Yes, the lights can illuminate and the control can be faulty and vice versa. There are two controls inside the console, the U/I control WPW10305452 and the CCU board W10745339. They are separate parts but they have to work together. Your best bet would be to find the tech data sheet (usually in an envelope, attached to the inside of the front panel) and conduct the tests listed. Good Luck and Thanks
